ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 969
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY
OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, TO PROVIDE FOR
A CHANGE IN THE METHOD OF COMPUTING
ANNUAL VACATION LEAVE AND ADDING AN
ADDITIONAL PAID HOLIDAY, REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Edgewater, Florida, desires to establish
a new schedule for annual vacation leave with pay, and to add an additional
paid holiday.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE
CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1: That Section 2 (a) of Ordinance 969 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
2. (a) Employees covered by this Ordinance shall be
be entitled to annual vacation leave, with pay, at the
employees regular base rate of pay, on the following basis:
Less than 1 year 0 work days
1 - 4 years 10 work days
5 - 10 years 15 work days
11 years and over 20 work days
That for the purpose of calculating accrued vacation time, the
date of employment by the City shall be the date the employee
begins his employment and on each year's anniversary date
thereafter said employee shall be deemed to have worked a
full year. No employee shall be entitled to vacation time
without having first completed a full year's employment.
A minimum of one half of accrued vacation time must be
taken within any given anniversary period. The remaining
portion of the accrued vacation time may be carried into
the following work year or compensation may be received
in an amount not to exceed one-half of the accrued vacation time.
The taking of any vacation time accrued which is in excess
of the vacation time allotted for any one anniversary period
must be approved by the Department Head.

Upon termination of employment, an employee shall be
paid for any unused portion of accrued vacation time which
shall be prorated on a monthly basis from the last anniversary
date.
Section 2: That Section 3 of Ordinance 969 is hereby amended to
read as follows:
Section 3: The City of Edgewater, Florida, recognizes the
following holidays as paid holidays: New Years Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas
Day, Memorial Day, the employee's birthday and a floating
holiday to be selected by the employee with the approval of
the Department Head of the specific Department of which the
employee is employed.
All other provisions as contained in Section 3 (a) shall remain unchanged.
Section 3: That all other provisions of Ordinance 969 not in conflict
herewith shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 4: That all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and all
Resolutions or parts of Resolutions of the City of Edgewater, Florida, that
are in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
Section 5: That the City Clerk is hereby directed to advertise this
Ordinance as required by law.
Section 6: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its final passage as provided by law.
The first reading of the above ordinance was read in full and passed by
vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at the: _ . <_ �
