AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA AMENDING ARTICLE I, SECTION 8, SUB.
PARAGRAPH 2 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, BEING CHAPTER 27532:'
SECTION 8 SPECIAL ACTS OF THE LEGISLATURE OF
THE STATE OF FLORIDA 1951 AND CHAPTER 29040
SECTION 1 OF THE SPECIAL ACTS OF THE LEGISLATURE
OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA 1953, PERTAINING TO THE
FIXING OF COMPENSATION FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR CHARTER PROVISIONS
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 73-129, Laws of
Florida, being the Home Rule Act of the State of Florida, granted to
municipalities the power to amend certain provisions of their charters
by ordinance duly enacted by the legislative bodies of municipalities, and
WHEREAS, the "Home Rule Power" granted to municipalities
extends to the City of Edgewater, Florida as more particularly set forth
in Chapter 166. 021, Florida Statutes, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida
deems it in the best interests of the City of Edgewater, Florida to
amend specifically Article I, Section 8, paragraph 2 of the Charter of
the City of Edgewater, Florida so as to increase the compensation of
the members of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Edgewater,
Florida to provide for an increase in the compensation to the members
of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida to be retroactive
to December 1, 1976.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF
THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That Article I, Section 8, sub paragraph 2 of the
Charter of the City of Edgewater, Florida, being a part of Chapter
27532, Section 8 Special Acts of the Legislature of the State of Florida

1951 and Chapter 29040 Section 1 of the Special Acts of the Legislature
of the State of Florida 1953, be and the same is hereby amended as
follows:
(2) The members of the City Council shall receive as
compensation the sum of Two Thousand Four Hundred
($2, 400. 00) Dollars annually, payable monthly. The
Mayor of the City shall receive as compensation the sum
of Three Thousand ($3, 000. 00) Dollars, annually, payable
monthly. That in addition to the above, the Mayor and the
members of the City Council, when authorized by the City
Council, shall be compensated for any time spent on behalf
of the City of Edgewater, Florida attending hearings or
meetings at the rate of Twenty ($20. 00) Dollars per day for
each day, and at the rate of Ten ($10. 00) Dollars per day
for each one-half day.
SECTION 2. That the compensation provided for in this Ordinance
shall be retroactive to and including the first day of December, 1976.
SECTION 3. That all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and all
Resolutions or parts of Resolutions of the City of Edgewater, Florida.
that are in conflict with this Ordinance be and the same are hereby
repealed.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to advertise
this Ordinance as required by law.
SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its final passage as provided by law.
The first reading of the above Ordinance was read in full and passed by
vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at the
meeting of said Council held on the day of 1976,
and approved as provided by law.
