REPORTS Samantha Bergeron, Director of the Parks & Recreation Department and Economic Development Coordinator, reported doing business visits with Virgil Kimball from the County to try to secure Shultz Engineering who contracts with the Air Force. Boston Whaler is moving forward with expansion efforts and recently had an update meeting with Hacienda del Rio's Homeowners Association along with representatives from the City of Edgewater and Volusia County. Residents were interested in anew park and trail adjacent to Boston Whaler, which is still in the planning phases. Mrs. Jamison inquired if Bike Florida will be returning next year Ms. Bergeron reported that the Bike Florida group tries to host rides in various areas of the state to allow participants to experience our outdoor diversity. So, it will be a few years before they will do one of their annual events in Edgewater again and they will be more than welcome. Ms. Bergeron reported that Team Volusia has provided a lot of leads for big projects from companies City of Edgewater Page 1 Printed on 812212018 4 Economic Development Board Meeting Minutes August 1, 2018 in the aviation and aerospace industries and she mentioned that Team Volusia is also a great resource for industry specific information. Brilliance (the assisted living facility project) is moving forward. More doctors and professionals are looking to set up offices in the area. Home developments that were on the books back in 2006-2007 are starting to move again, working on site plans and plot plans and submitting permitting. Ms. Bergeron indicated that a list of all ongoing commercial and residential projects is available in the last Quarterly Report from Development Services. The City is working with the County on a request to revise language in the CRA allowing something other than capital projects, such as facade grants or other smaller projects to help beautify the CRA district. The WSBB commercial has been updated. Donna Snow, President of the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, reported that the Chamber is bringing Disney Institute to Volusia County on September 12th at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach. They will be talking about branding, customer loyalty and employee engagement in their top-notch training module called "Disney Institute's Approach to Business Excellence". Paid registrations totaled 130 so far and the event will most likely sell out. Registrants are from diverse industries such as education, retail, hospitality and manufacturing. Over$30,000 in sponsorship money has been brought in from companies including Florida Hospital, Boston Whaler Brown & Brown Insurance and they are not done yet. Mrs. Snow then thanked Bob Andrejkovics for agreeing to Chair the Legislative Affairs Committee for the Chamber and extended her appreciation to Sue Williams for all she does. Sue Williams, Director of the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, reported that SEVMI's website design is being finalized and will go live soon. There will be a luncheon at noon on August 16th at the Yacht Club to meetprimary candidates from Edgewater Oak Hill and New Smyrna Beach and a hob nob on October 10th. 5. OTHER BUSINESS In order to fill the two open positions on the Board, applications on file were reviewed and discussed. Ms. Bergeron shared that she spoke with both applicants and has invited them to attend the next Board Meeting. NEW BUSINESS Clarence McCloud reported that Daytona State College is about to finish its second short term training class in the duct fabrication program. Some HVAC owners and managers are going to come to the last class to meet students and potential employees. The South Campus is getting funding for three Tormach cutting machines in preparation to start a machining program. A window installation class will be held in a few weeks and short term training opportunities, designed to develop entry level skills, will continue to be made available until the end of the semester On October 9th, the South Campus will be having a job fair Mrs. Jamison reported that the widening of ParkAvenue is coming. The project will take about 18 months to complete once it is underway. 7.
