Katez Present / ,lIbsent / Present Present // Present Absent / Present A.bsent / Present APPROVAL OF MINUTES ~ayor Armstrong stated the City Attorney was excused as it was not essential to be here. Councilwoman Crigger arrived at 7:35 P.M. Mayor Armstrong announced the purpose of this recessed meetin9 was for the swearina in ceremony of the new councilman and the departing speeches from the old Councilman. Mayor Armstrong stated as Mayor he would like to express his sincere appreciation for the services to Edgewater and to ~y self this past year from Councilman Wiggins of Zone 4, and Councilman Ganta of Zone 2. Now being replaced by Edward K. Clinton and John G. Bevel, I would like to give you the opportunity to express any opinions you may have. Councilman Ganta stated he hopEd everyone gets behind the Mayor and helps. The Budget this year was much easier to handle do to the efforts of the Mayor, also, the tax milleage has dropped to 7.00 mills. It has been a pleasure working v.,,;th all of you. Councilman Higgins said he had enjoyed his 2 years as Councilman. I only have one regret, and that is that the bulkhead project o nth e t,! 0 r t h sid e 0 f the Par k & Pi e r i s not com p 1 e t e d . I would like to wish all the new members smooth sailing. Mayor Armstrong extended the stairway to the two new Council me m b e r s . 1'1 r. C 1 i n ton and Ivl r. B eve 1 c am e u p () nth est age . The City Clerk read the Oath of Office. Bevel repeated after her and signed the Oath of Loyalty and were presented with Election. Mr. Clinton and Mr. Oath of Office, the Certificate of Council seats were then exchanged. 1. ::?' 4~ F # u o Councilman Clinton stated he would like to extend his appreciation to all who voted for him, and said he would do all in his power to do all he can for the people of Edgewater and work good with the present City Council. Councilman Clinton then introduced his Janet in the audience. Councilman Bevel introduced his wife Joyce and his daughter Lynn. He stated he looked at this position as a job and if you donlt tell me what the problems are I canlt do anything about them. He then urged all the citizens to attend the workshop and City Council meetings to express their views. Councilwoman Crigger welcomed them aboard, with her best ~/ishes. Also, extended her appreciation to all who had sent cards and flowers during her absence. Councilman Severance said he had just one word. Welcome, 11m glad they are interested in our town. This is not an easy job. He also extended his sincere appreciation to Councilman Wiggins and Councilman Ganta for all the insight and assistance in many ways he had given to him. Mayor Armstrong extended a formal welcome to the new members and solicited the cooperation of the entire town and City Council to make Edgewater a better and safer place to live. We have a wonderful staff and they deserve the credit. 11m glad election is over so we can get down to business. My fullest appreciation to the former City Council members for their assistance. I pledge on my part the fullest cooperation in getting the North side of the Park & Pier project completed. Police Chief Katez welcomed the two new council members. We're going to miss Charles Ganta and David Wiggins and I do thank them for their help. Chief Katez showed the new Poloroid camera he had received by donation from Mr. Ellis of Ellis used cars for use in the Police Dept. Expressed his sincere appreciation on behalf of the Police Dept. for this camera. Mayor Armstrong announced the next workshop meeting is November 16, 1972 in the Mayors office. 2 . ~ >.. . ~~ u u NEW BUSINESS NONE ADJOURN OR RECESS: There being no further business~ Councilman Severance duly made a motion to adjourn, being seconded by Councilwoman Crigger. Armstrong on Wednesday, November 8, 1972 for the purpose of declaring the results of a General or Regular Election. ROLL CALL: Mayor Dana T. Armstrong recessed the meeting long enough for the election board to open the absentee ballots and tal ley the totals with the voting machine totals. The results were then presented to the City Clerk and the Mayor. Councilwoman Marion Crigger arrived at 4:10 P.M. RESOLUTIONS: RESOLUTION NO. 446 A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF A REGULAR ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, ON NOVEMBER 7, 1972 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A COUNCILMAN FROM ZONE 2, AND A COUNCILMAN FROM ZONE 4 AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above Resolution being read in full by City Clerk Cornelia A. Kin s ey . Councilman Wiggins duly made a motion to approve said Resolution. Said motion being seconded by Councilwoman Crigger, Upon Roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. There being no further business, Councilman Severance made a motion to recess until 7:30 P.M. this date for the official swearing in ceremony of the two Councilman. TIME OF ADJOURNMENT: 4:20 P.M.
