REGULAR MEETING HELD
JUNE 5, 1972
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida was called to order by Mayor DAna T. ARmstrong on Monday,
June 5, 1972, at 7:30 P.M.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Councilman Severance duly made a motion to approve the minutes of
May 15, 1972 meeting, being seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon
roll call vote, said motion CARRIED, with Councilwoman voting No.
A motion to approve the minutes of the meeting held May 23, 1972
was duly made by Councilwoman Crigger and seconded by Councilman
Severance. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.

Councilman Wiggins duly amde a motion to pay said bills and accounts,
being seconded by Councilwoman Crigger. Upon roll call vote, said
motion CARRIED.
OFFICERS REPORTS
Certification of Posting
COMMUNICATIONS
The City Clerk read a letter from the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce
stating they would enter into an agreement with the City by loaning
the City money to be given to the Fire Department for building the
new fire station.
Mayor Armstrong stated the City did not need to borrow any money
for the Fire Department because the City has the money but cannot
legally give it to the Fire Department until the new fiscal year
so it can be appropriated in the budget.
A letter from Mr. Vic Vandergrifft was read by the City Clerk re-
questing the position of Safety Director for the City of Edgewater.
Mayor Armstrong stated this position comes under the Chief of Po1ice's
job and recommended the letter be tabled for further study.
Councilman Wiggins duly made a motion to table the letter for further
consideration, being seconded by Councilman Severance. Upon roll
call vote, said motion CARRIED.
ORDINANCES
ORDINANCE NO. 753: AN ORDINANCE EMPLOYING AND APPOINT-
ING GEORGE R. KATEZ AS CHIEF OF POLICE FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA, SETTING FORTH HIS TENURE, SETTING FORTH HIS COMPENSATION
FOR SUCH OFFICE, SETTING FORTH HIS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR.
The above Ordinance was read in full by City Attorney, Joseph E. Weaver.
Councilman Severance duly made a motion to adopt the said Ordinance,
being seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said
motion CARRIED with Mayor Armstrong voting No.
A motion to waive the second reading was duly made by Councilman
Wiggins and seconded by Councilman Severance. Upon roll call vote,
said motion CARRIED with Mayor Armstrong voting No.

ORDINANCE NO. 754: AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING AND APPOINT-
ING WILLIAM J. BUSSINGER AS REGULAR PATROLMAN FOR THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, SETTING FORTH HIS COMPENSATION
FOR SUCH OFFICE, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR.
The above Ordinance being r.ead in full by City Attorney, Joseph Weaver.
A motion for adoption of the said Ordinance was duly made by
Councilwoman Crigger and seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll
call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Councilman Wiggins duly made a motion to waive the second reading,
being seconded by Councilman Severance. Upon roll call vote, said
motion CARRIED.
OLD BUSINESS
Earl WAllace and Architect from New Smyrna Beach presented to the
Council, an artist's conception of the ariel view of the townhouse
apartments to be built sou h of Silver Ridge.
NEW BUSINESS
Councilman Severance duly made a motion to advertise for bids for a
chlorinator with the bids being returned by the next regular meet-
ing on June 19, 1972. Said motion was seconded by Councilman
Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Councilwoman Crigger duly made a motion to hire Carl Griffin as
patrolman upon discharge of service from the Coast Guard. Said
motion was seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote,
said motion CARRIED.
MISCELLANEOUS
Mr. Jacob Lodico asked that the Council authorize the City Clerk
to give him a copy of the budget report for the fiscal year of
1971 and a copy of the minutes of the last meeting he attended
as Councilman.
Mayor Armstrong authorized the City Attorney to check to see if
an X-Councilman was entitled to these papers and if so, Mr. Lodico
would receive copies.
There being no further business, Councilman Wiggins duly made a
motion to adjourn, being seconded by Councilman Severance. Upon
roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
