The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida was called to order by Mayor William H. Cairnie on Tuesday,
September 7, 1971, at 7:30 P.M.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Councilman Ganta duly made a motion to approve the minutes of the
regular meeting of August 16, 1971 and the minutes of special
meeting on August 19, 1971. Said motion was seconded by Council-
man Wiggins asking that a correction in the minutes of the regular
meeting be made to read; the policemen will be going on a Fourty
hour work week instead of Fourth hour work week. Upon roll call
vote, said motion CARRIED.

A motion was duly made by Councilman Wiggins to pay said bills and
accounts, being seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call vote,
said motion CARRIED.

Library Report for August
COMMUNICATIONS
A letter from Fun-Lan Drive-In Theatre requesting the street lights
on Thomas Street be moved to prevent the glaring when the people
are watching the movie, was read by the City Clerk.
Councilman Lodico stated the street lights were put there by re-
quest of the residents on Thomas Street. We put shades on the
lights at one time but it was still too dark on the street.
Councilman Fugate duly made a motion to table the letter until
the Council can check the situation of the lights, being seconded
by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
A letter of resignation from James F. Kight of the Sewer Dep~rt-
ment was read by the City Clerk in which Mr. Kight lists varlOUS
suggestions which he feels could improve the Sewer Department.
A motion to accept the resignation of Mr. Kight was made by
Councilman Wiggins and seconded by Councilman Fugate. Upon roll
call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Mayor Cairnie suggested the Council investigate the things mentioned
in Mr. Kight's letter.
A petition from residents of Connecticut Street requesting signs
be put up was read by the City Clerk.
Councilman Fugate duly made a motion to table the letter until the
Chief of Police could make an investigation of the signs to be used.
Said motion was seconded by Councilman loldico. Upon roll call vote,
said motion CARRIED. ~odico

NEW BUSINESS
Councilman Ganta duly made a motion to allow Ken Clinton dump trash
at the City dump for a trial of 6 months, and seconded by Council-
man Lodico. Upon roll call vote, said motion did not carry since
it was misunderstood as to the number of months the trial basis
would be.
Councilman Lodico duly made a motion for the contract between
Ken Clinton and the City be for 3 months basis, being seconded by
Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
A motion to revamp Ordinance No. 611 limiting the number piles of
trash per week which residents can put out for pick-up by the City
truck. Said motion was seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll
call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Councilman Wiggins duly made a motion to retain Mrs. Vada Bennett
as custodian of Community Center by contract, being seconded by
Councilman Fugate. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Mayor Cairnie suggested the Council instruct the Board of Governors
not to have bingo in the Community Center during the elections.
Councilman Fugate stated there should be a Resolution stating City
Business come first and that they be able to meet in Community
Center over any other organization.
City Attorney, Charles Hall, advised the Council they did not need
a Resolution. The Council has jurisdiction over the Community
Center at all times.
Lilian Straub addressed the Council requesting permission to erect
a sign for Magnuson Corporation on Willow Oak and Indian River Blvd.
Mayor Cairnie advised Lilian Straub to have Mr. Magnuson take the
matter to the Zoning Board.
There being no further business, Councilman Fugate made a motion
to adjourn and seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call
vote, said motion CARRIED.
