Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. OFFICERS REPORTS Certification of Posting Library Report for May, 1971 C 0 '.1 M U N I CAT ION S A letter from the Fire Department requesting $400.00 from the City for the fireworks on the 4th of July was read by the City Clerk, Elsie L. Ward. Councilman Ganta duly made a motion the $400.00 be granted, being seconded by Councilman Fugate. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. ORDINANCES ORDINANCE NO. 689: AN ORDINANCE SETTING FORTH MANDA- TORY AGE OF RETIREMENT FOR ALL FULL TIME OR PART-TIME EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SETTING FORTH A REQUIREMENT AS TO THE MAXII1UM AGE THAT A FULL OR PART-TIME EMPLOYEE CAN BE EMPLOYED, REQUIRING PROOF OF AGE OF ANY EMPLOYEE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AND SETTING FORTH AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above Ordinance was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. Councilman Fugate duly made a motion to adopt the said Ordinance, and seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED, with Mayor Cairnie voting Nay and Councilman Ganta voting Nay. A motion was duly made by Councilman Fugate to waive the second reading, being seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. Mrs. Crigger addressed the Council and stated most of the people in Edgewater are elderly who are mentally and physically able to work and they need the money. I think the Ordinance is unfair. Mr Gross asked what was the reason for the Ordinance? Councilman Fugate stated it was for the City's benefit. If a man lives to be 65, he should have enough money to live on. Mayor Cairnie stated the Ordinance was for part time work also and in my opinion I think it is very bad. -2- o ... . 1 -~.... o o ''f U RESOLUTIONS RESOLUTION NO. 398: A RESOLUTION APPOINTING LEROY CUTSHAW AS CIVIL DEFENSE COORDINATOR FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SETTING FORTH THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF HIS APPOINT- MENT, SETTING FORTH HIS TENURE, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. Councilman Lodico duly made a motion to adopt the Resolution, being seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED, with Councilman Ganta abstaining. Councilman Lodico stated the City could get surplus items if we were a member of the Civil Defense so we picked Mr. Cutshaw. OLD BUSINESS The City Clerk, Elsie Ward stated the Council had not received a letter from the Zoning or Planning Boards regarding Mr. Magnuson1s request to rezone Indian River Blvd. MISCELLANEOUS Mr. Hanson stated the main canal in Florida Shores drains, keeping the water low. This prevents proper irrigation making it hard to grow anything. He asked of the Council would look into the proble and build a dam so Florida Shores could have irrigation. Councilman Ganta asked that everone be their own plumber by listen- ing for leaks in their faucets and taps to save water since there is a shortage of water over the State. There being no further business, Councilman Fugate duly made a motion to adjourn, being seconded by Councilman Wiggins. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. TIME OF ADJOURNMENT: 8:20 P.M.
