Motion duly made by Councilman Seng these minutes stand approved as submitted, seconded by Councilman Siller and by vote CARRIED. The Library Report for the month of December was read. CONHUNICATIONS A letter was read from John D. Swartz requesting that his property that is not zoned as commercial be rezoned as commercial. Enclosed in his letter was a survey platt and two pictures of the property. He also stated that he had paid the fee required by the Zoning Ordinance. A letter was read froffi Harry Walker requesting that two courts be added to the present 8 shuffle board courts. He stated that the cost of the courts is the only expense the city will be called upon to pay. A letter was read from Fire Chief Garlick requesting the buying of a Siren for the Civil Defense Truck. A letter was read from Fire Chief Garlick stating that Civil Defense has two stretchers at their office for the City of Edgewater. Cost $16.00. Councilman Siller stated that the request for a siren could be taken out of the fund set aside for Civil Defense and that if the Civil Defense truck needs a siren we should use this fund for it. Concerning the stretchers he said permission should be given to buy them since it is a necessity and it would be very hard to get them anywhere else for a smaller amount of money. Notion duly made by Councilman Siller these items be bought, seconded by Councilman Seng and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:- ......- Councilman Siller Councilman Seng Councilman Palmateer Councilman Drury Nayor Hussey Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea Councilman Palmateer stated that he was informed today by the Secretary of the Shuffle Board Club that at the present time they have 105 members. He said that, of course, the amount of shuffle board courts they have is not sufficient to accomodate visiting teams to give everybody a chance to play. He said that at the present if we got two courts we would be doing very well. II " u w <., v Councilman Siller said he felt the City of Edge~mter should consider what New Smyrna Beach is doing by. having a membership similar to New Smyrna Beach. He said that people will be coming from New Smyrna Beach to play here when they can do it for nothing. Councilman Palmateer said that the Club in New Smyrna Beach doesn't take care of the courts. He said in Edge~ter the Club buys the chalk, score sheets, etc. Councilman Seng said he remenmered that the City bought some wax for the Shuffle Board Club not too long ago. Councilman Palmateer said that ~s stopped. The City bought one bucket of wax but the Shuffle Board Club bought all the rest. Councilman Drury asked what the cost was of running the Shuffle Board Courts for a year. Councilman Palmateer. said he couldn1t give that information right at the moment. He didn't have the exact figures. Motion duly made by Councilman Seng we table the letter from Harry Ifalker concerning the Shuffle Board Courts, sec.onded by Councilman Drury. There were no objections. Notion duly made by Councilman Seng we turn over to the Zoning Board the letter from John Swartz for rezoning seconded by Councilman Siller and by vote CARRJED. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Siller Councilman Seng Councilman Palmateer Councilman Drury Mayor Hussey Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Mr. Herman Heinsohn asked.. if the Council ~ms going to allow any money for the park in Florida Shores. He said a good deal of money has been spent on the Park here in the City but not for the park in Florida Shores. }myor Hussey said the Council had tried in the past year to put a bulkhead down there that would serve the purpose and not always be falling apart. He said they hadn't decided on what they can do. He said they will try to grade the park as it is and see if they could get it cleared up. Hr. Herman John said everyones garbage rate ~s raised 50rt. He said his was raised $1.75. He said he has only one can and sometimes one and a [,alf. Mayor Hussey said that the people will have to have a little patience. There will be an adjustment in the ordinance. Hr. John said he pays a license in the City and didn't see why he should have that big raise in the garbage charge. He said he will pay 75i more and no more than that. lf~. Heinsohn, Orange Tree Drive, asked when the corners of the streets where he lived were going to be fixed. He said some of the streets are right in the gutter. Hayor Hussey said we will get down there as soon as we can. " u r ~ o u A letter of resignation was read from Attorney Jefferson vi. Clark. He stated that upon his return from vacation he noted an article in the paper to the effec~ that the City oi Edgewater was contemplating the termination of his services. He stated that he recalled no instance in which the City Council indicated tohim that dissatisfaction existed in reference to his duties as City Attorney. Councilman Palmateer stated that he regretted that Attorney Clark had to learn that his services were terminated through the newspaper. We can do nothing but accept his resignation with regret. Councilman Seng said that he was unable to attend this meeting concerning the newspaper item on City Attorney Clark. He questioned as to any of the Council saying that Hr. Clark viaS uncooperative. I am very sorry that that was said if it was said. Mayor Hussey said he had sincere regrets on this resignation. }~yor Hussey said people had been asking him why certain things weren't done such as the annexation, power and light situation and others. People ask vmy the attorney wasn It doing anything. III like Hr. Clark and all I know about him. As far as the man is concerned I have nothing against him.1l Councilman Seng said he saw nothing in the minutes of that meeting that says }~. Clark was uncooperative. Mayor Hussey said Hr. Clark viaS very concerned with what was in the paper. He asked me if there couldn't be a correction made. Motion duly made by Councilman Palmateer !1r. Clark I s resignation be accepted, seconded by Councilman Seng and by vote CARRIED.
