The Mayor read the resignation of Robert H. McCarthy.
Councilman Cairnie asked if Mr. HcCarthy was present and after being told
he was, he asked him if there was anything he would like to say.
Patrolman HcCarthy said he would like to clarify a few things. He said
the three patrolmen wanted to continue as a body but with so many rumors
going around they decided to tender their resignation. He felt the Council
didn't have much trust in them when they would go out and advertise for
the jobs instead of offering them to the present employees.
Councilman Siller said each Patrolman would have equal chance to apply for
the job.
Mr. McCarthy said he put in application the night Mr. Deibler was released
and had heard nothing in regards to it.

the City was hiring him and got a very good reference regarding him. He said
he also knew nothing of the hiring of Mr. Langford until after he had started.
Mayor Armstrong said you should have come in and talked to us and should have
carried on until notified different. The Council has not had the time as yet
to make the decisions.
Councilman Siller said the audience knew before us what was in the letters.
Mr. McCarthy told the Council they did not decide until after 5:00 P.M.
last night to resign and he did not know how the audience knew about it.
