A letter was read from Hazel H. Massey dated July 12th, 1965 stating the
reascns for her leaving the Edgewater Library as librarian were a job with
greater security, pension plan with the County Board of Education and
the hours are shorter and the Saturdays are free. She said she will continue
reading to the young children at the Saturday Morning Story Hour. She asked
that there be no hard feelings.
Councilman Tingle suggested this letter be put in the paper to straighten
out some of the misunderstandings.
Hayor Armstrong said he was so:bry to see Hazel Massey leave. She has served
at her job very well. He also added he did not want to stand in the way of
anyone bettering themself.
Mayor Armstrong said he might be partly at fault with the Library Board having
trouble getting together a quorum for their meetings. He said he didn't want
to appoint any board members until after the city is reapportioned.
Councilman Siller said he read in the newspaper that Ruth Driskel had been hired
as librarian. He wondered where the information came from as he didn't know
that anyone had been hired.
Mayor Armstrong said he did not know where it came from either.
Councilman Cairnie said the library board makes recommendations to the Council
and then we have to act upon -'their recommendation.
