The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida
was called to order by l~or Dana T. Armstrong at 7:30 P.M. on June 7th, 1965.

The Hinutes of the Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida held }~ 17th, 1965 were presented to each cfuuncilman for his approval.
Motion duly made by Councilman Siller these minutes stand approved as submitted,
seconded by Councilman Tingle and by vote CARRIED. The roll call vote of those
present Nas unanimous.

Motion duly w4de by Councilman Tingle these bills be paid and be wade a part
of the minutes, seconded by Councilman Siller and by vote CARRIED. The roll call
vote of those present was unanimous.

Certification of Posting dated l{ay 18th, 1965, was read.
Building Official's Report for the month of ~~, 1965, was read.
The Police Department Report for the month of May, 1965, was read.
Clerk's Cash Statement for the month of }~, 1965, was read.
The Thldget Report for the month of ~~y, 1965, was read.
Y~yor .~mstrong thanked the City Clerk and all other Department Heads for the
above reports.

lIayor Armstrong said he received a letter from Itr. Smith on Bigelow Drive
concernirg the conditio~ of his sidevalk. He said the letter was addressed
to the Y~yor and not the Council and that is WDY it was not read. The ~~or
said the condition there is very bad and the next time the County is doing some
work in Edge'\olater he I.Jill see to it that this condition is fixed. The Mayor said
this was a very old sidewalk and didn't thil1k the City could hold a general contractor
liable for the damage as it probabl:r wasn't too sturd;r to start '\olith. The l>!ayor thanked
~~. Smith for bringing this to the attention of the COllllcil.

OTHER BIDS.
The above ordinance was read in full by Attorney Mathas and motion dt~ made
by Councilman Siller this ordinance be adopted, seconded by CotU1cilman Tingle
and passed by vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at
the regular meeting of said Council held June 7th, 1965. The roll call vote
of those present 'I1aS unanimous.

Upon ~~tion duly made by Counci~an Siller, seconded by Councilman Tingle
the requirement of reading Ordinance upon second reading was ~'laived and the
ordinance was ordered ~lt into effect immediately at the Regular Meeting
of tte said council held on the 7th day of June, A. D. 1965, and approved
as provided b;y law. The roll call vote of those present l'laS unanimous.

Mrs. Thelma Hennig, Chairman of the Library Board, addressed the council
concerning the possibility of getting a grant from the Federal Government
in the aIT~unt of 45% of the cost of building a new library or repairing the
old library. She said the property now used by the library has to be used
for a 1ibrar,f or the property reverts back to the Hali..('s family. She said
to qualify for this grant a letter must be written by the 1vfuyor and attested
to by the City Clerk with the seal of the city attached stating that the
Council is interested in a new building, ~~ney will be set up in the budget
and that the city can qualify for the money. She said the letter must be
~Titten by July 1st, 1965.
Mayor Armstro~g said he is just as much interested in a new library as anyone.
He said the library has outlived its usefulness and the city is entitled to a
nel'l library. He said even if we had the money we could not have it built
until November. He said the Council can g~ on record as being in favor of
accepting the Federal Grant and ..n11 set up funds in the next budget.
Motion duly made by Councilman Siller the Mayor be authorized to send a
letter stating the desire of the City to have a new library and attach the
city seal to the SaIT~, seconded by Councilman Tingle and by vote CJL~~IED.
The roll call vote of those present was-Ul1animous.
C01L~ci~~n Siller questioned the possibility of getting the Heirs of th~ Hav~'s
f ami~? and have the:m change the deed.
Hrs. Hennig said that is nearly im.wssib1e as there are about three heirs and
they are scattered f!J.1 over the country and ,-Iould be very hard to find even one.
Edge~ter Fire Chief Richard H~~son asked the Council to consider the purchase
of a nevI fire truck. He said the one we have nOI'! is a disgrace to the City.
He said for six, seven or eight thousand dollars the city could buy a ne,-, truck.
He asked the Council to consider thfus in the new budget.
Councilman Siller said the City is considering this as well as considering the
~chase of a new garbage truck.
1vfayor Armstrong said he inquired about getting a nevT fire ,truck from the Civil
Defense but found that if they got the fire truck there the city woitld be obligated
to protect the vIho1e county vm.ieh we could not do. Vie Ifill have to get a truck
that vnll belong to the City.

Fire Chief Hanson said the Edgewater Fire Department does not ;;0 outside the

has an intl"!rcom system between the Fi"'e St~tion and the Dispatcher in the Police
D~partment so as soon as they arrive at the Fire Station they know ~mere the
fire is. He said they pl~~ed to purchase a piece of radio equipment soon
so there ~~ll be radio communication between the Disnatcher a~d the Fire
'l'ruck. Ee said the cooperation "nth the Police Depa~tment has been very good
and they help us by letting us use the radio.
Hayor Arnstrong cormnended the Fire Department on the '.:ork the:r are doing.
lIe said he would give their request for a fire truck all the consideration
possible.
Tom Groover of Bri] e:r, '(,Tild & Associates read the advertisement for bids
for the lq65 ~later - Extension Progra.ll.
r~yor Arrnstron3 explained th~t the bids will be opened at the July 7th
mee+,ing of the Ci t;r Council as the neeting of J111y 5th will be recessed until
the 7th.

~xtension Progr&~"seconded by Councilman Tingle and by vote CJL~IED. The
roll call vote of those present was unanimous.

Councilwan Siller co~~ended y~. LaBonde, the Euilding Orfici~l, on the fine
job he has done on ~he Sewer Project.
Councilman Siller suggested we put an announcement on WSBB Radio stating that
June 13th is the deadline for the sewl"!r connection and that septic tanks
can not be used after that ti~.
~~. Tom Strang o.f Briley, Wild & Associates suggested v~ send letters to the
85 or 90 people who have not hooked up to the Sev~r Syste~.
Y..r. David I. ~viggins, Sr., asked if the City had anything to do ,^lith changing
the speed on U. S. ~'l.
!hyor A~~trong said it was the State Road Depart~ent that changed the speed;
the City had nothing to do with it.
~:r. Robert :'~'"Well, Flo"'ldt. Shores, thanked the Chief of Police for looking
over his property ,1hile he was on'vacation.
l!a:ror Armstrong said this is a courtes;r of the Police Dernrtment a.~d suggested
anyone leaving town notify the Police Department right away.
IhJ"or ArlI'strong said the City is anticipating the purchase of some nl'!";l tables
for the Community Center. He said they have to g~t nrices on the tables before
th~y can purchase them.
