Attorney Hall explained the reason for ralslng the millage was to
make up for the decrease in taxes by a property de-evaluation of
approximately 27% or $3,000,000.00.
Mr. Seidel asked what portion of the city did the decreased evaluation
take place. Attorney Hall stated it was in Florida Shores.
Mr. Armstrong asked if the need for additional revenue was great
enough to warrant an increase in taxes.
Vice Mayor Lodico stated that the collection of taxes this year was
approximately $13,000.00 less than anticipated and less than the
amount collected last year, also that building collections and
franchise rebate were down from that of previous years.
He went on to explain that due to the slack in building throughout
the country, our anticipated building revenue fell short by approxi-
mate~y $2,000.00 and that due to the lower rates from Florida Power
& Light Company to Edgewater residents, which our six per-cent tax
is based upon, we collected only $9,300.00 of an anticipated $15,000.00,
which results in approximately a $6,000.00 loss for an over-all
shortage of approximately $20,000.00 to the anticipated budget.
Mr. Shambora asked just what the shortage would be to the budget if
the tax millage was not increased.
Councilman Walls stated that it would result in approximately $10,000.00
less to the proposed budget of $151,000.00 which is the absolute
minimum needed to operate this year.
