At 7:00 P.M. on April 1, 1968, an informal discussion on
the current Paving Program was held in the Community Cen-
ter. This discussion preceded the Regular Council Meet-
i n g .
The outline of the Paving Program was read by Councilman
Dimm. There was some general discussion relative to the
fact that the newspapers had incorrectly listed some of
the items on the paving list.
Mr. Raymond Jaszczak of Banyan Tree Drive wanted to know
why one block of Banyan Tree Drive was not included in
the paving list. Councilman Dimm explained that Banyan
Tree Drive was to be paved from the Boulevard south to
19th Street, and only certain areas were taken into con-
sideration in the Paving Program. Mayor Cairnie asked
how much footage would be needed to pave the remaining'
block of Banyan Tree Drive. Mr. Jaszczak said he thought
about 200 feet. Councilman Dietz, Councilman Dimm and
Mayor Cairnie agreed that it may be feasible to include
this amount of footage to complete the paving of Banyan
Tree Drive.
Mr. D. Armstrong asked if there wasn't some discrimina-
tion being shown with the proposed paving. He stated
that the City had only held title to Monroe Circle for
three years. Councilman Dietz asked Mr. Armstrong how
long he thought was the usual waiting time. Mayor Cair-
nie explained that the sewer system had to be taken in-
to consideration, and it is not always feasible for some
paving to be done before other items on this current pro-
gram. He stated that when the little jobs are done, we
can plan to finish the whole City. Councilman Dimm ex-
plained that the current program is trying to complete
certain sections. Councilman Dimm also mentioned that
the big question in any paving program is the resultant
upkeep. Mayor Cairnie explained that recapping and re-
sealing is included in the current program.
Chief Hanson asked, "Do you ever come into contact \'lith
the Co u n t y ere \'I? " Co u n c il man 0 i m m r e p 1 i ed, " The Co u n t y
has been very cooperative this year. It may be that they
are working in this area, but this is an election year."
Chief Hanson mentioned that there is a culvert in need
of repair on Park Avenue east of Mango Tree Drive and a
dangerous hole at the corner of Edgewater Motors.
This concluded the discussion on the Paving Program for
the present.
