U o o " u REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA HELD NOVEMBER 18,1968 The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida was called to order by Mayor William H. Heath Present Present Pre s e n t Present Present Present Present Present Present Motion was duly made by Councilman Dimm, seconded by Councilman Dietz we accept the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of November 4, 1968. After some discussion, motion by roll call vote CARRIED. Councilman Ledbetter abstained. Mayor Cairnie stated that Councilman Ledbetter was not at the meeting concerning the appointment of various members of the Council as co-ordinators to various departments. A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE RESIGNATION .OF CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above Resolution was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall and upon Motion duly made by Councilman Dietz, second by Councilman Dimm this Resolution be adopted and by roll call vote CARRIED. I say all of them should resign!1I Attorney Hall stated that Mr. Pasch did not submit a resignation. Mr. Mosher, III recommended Mr. Pasch, because I felt he would be a good member.1I Councilman Dietz, IIAnd I recommended him on your say so. II Councilman Ledbetter, III can't hire or appoint some one from a different Zone!1I Mayor Cairnie, liThe Charter doesn't say you have to stick to Zones but it has been apolicy we have always followed. IIMr. Mosher is in the audaance, will the Board of Governors withdraw their resignations?1I Mr. Mosher, IINo Comment, as for the others, I think each one should speak for himself.1I Councilman Ledbetter, IIMayor, may I ask each one s:eppartJy?1I Councilman Dietz,IIThere has to be a 12 hour notice for anything,. to be changed on the agenda.1I Councilman Ledbetter, III only want to ask if they will serve on the Board!1I Councilman Dimm, IIThis is not the place to do it.1I Mr. Mosher, IILet's get rid of this confussion, I say accept the resignations.1I There was a quiet IIAMENII from the back of the room. RESOLUTION NO. 266. A RESOLUTION RAISING THE SALARY OF LEONA CARDEN, LIBRARIAN TO THE SUM OF $240.00 PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above Resolution was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall and upon motion duly made by Councilman Dietz, second by Councilman Norman this Resolution be adopted and by roll call vote CARRIED. -3- tr v o o 'f U RESOLUTION NO. 267. A RESOLUTION OF INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT AND ESTABLISH A FISHING PIER ON AND ABUTTING LAND OWNED BY THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SAID FISHING PIER TO PROTRUDE INTO INDIAN RIVER NORTH, DECLARING THE INTENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA TO SEEK PERMISSION FOR SAID PROJECT FROM THE VOLUSIA COUNTY COMMISSION, THE STATE OF FLORIDA, AND THE ARMY CAROPS OF ENGINEERS, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above Resolution was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall and upon motion duly made by Councilman Dietz, second by Councilman Dimm this Resolution be adopted and by roll call vote CARRIED. Mr. Lodico stated he would like for the reporters to stress the fact that the Fishing Pier was the idea of the Chamber of Commerce. Also they are willing to help the City financia1y 50 per cent of the cost up to $2,500.00. RESOLUTION NO. 268. A RESOLUTION HIRING LAWRENCE P. HARVEY, SR. AS A PATROLMAN FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SETTING FORTH HIS TENURE, PROVIDING FOR HIS COMPENSATION, AND PROVIDING AND EFFECTIVE DATE FOR SAID EMPLOYMENT. The above Resolution was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall and upon motion duly made by Councilman Norman, second by Councilman Ledbetter this Resolution be adopted and by roll call vote CARRIES. Mayor Cairnie reported the Police Department for the month of October had 72 arrest. For the City 68 and four turned over to the County. Total Fines and Forfeitures for the month was $1,255.00. OLD BUSINESS NONE NEW BUSINESS Councilman Ledbetter, III would like to recommend that Mr. Anthony Boreck be appointed to the Planning Board from Zone Two.1I Councilman Ledbetter, III didn't get a chance to appoint any one.1I Councilman Dietz, IIWe don't need any more members on the Planning Board!1I Attorney Hall, IIYou could rescind the Resolution to accept more on the Board.1I Councilman Ledbetter, IIZone Two is not represented.1I Mayor Cairnie suggested that Councilman Ledbetter motion to rescind the Resolution. Mr. Lodico, IIYou will have better Government if each Zone is represented.1I Mr. Armstrong, IITwo out of five Planning Board members operate a business in their own home. Don'tget me wrong, they are good people but are not law abiding citizens. Naming Mr. Harris as an example. Where does he operate his business?1I -4- H U u o u MISCELLANEOUS Mayor Cairnie announced there would be a Childrens Christmas Party in the Community Center, December 21, 1968 at 2:00 P.M. Kenneth Inkin invited everyone to the Firemens Auction November 23, 1968 at 7:30 P.M. Mr. Lodico, "I would like to see the Minutes Posted before they are approved." Councilman Dietz, "I suggest we get a tape recorder, to be used at the Council Meetings." Mr. Mosher, "I like the idea of a tape recorder, because the Minutes are not always verbatim." There being no further business motion was duly made by Councilman Dietz, second by councilman Dimm the meeting be adjourned and there were no objections. Time of Adjournment 8:27 P.M.
