THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER
SPECIAL MEETING HELD
JULY 10, 1970
Mayor William H. Cairnie called to order a Special Meeting of the
City Council for the City of Edgewater, at 10 A.M., Friday, July
10,'1970, in the office of the Mayor.
The purpose of the Special Meeting was to award a bid for the
heating and air conditioning of the Large Room of the Community
Center.

Councilman Dietz requested the City Clerk read the bids again.
After the reading of the bids (Paul R. Ohlson--$4,452.00 and
South Florida Natural Gas Company--$5,393.00 with $400.00 allowed
for trade-in on the old heaters), a general discussion followed
between the members of the City Council and Mr. Morgan, a repre-
sentative present from South Florida Natural Gas Company.
After discussing the merits of gas versus electric air cooling
and the prices quoted for each, Councilman Dietz stated, IIFor the
difference of $941.00, I don1t see how we can take the higher bid.1I
Councilman Ledbetter duly moved to table the bids, adding IIthat
we should get both representatives here since the Council wasn1t
fully represented when Mr. Ohlson was herell. Said motion was
seconded by Councilman Lodico. Said motion upon roll call vote
DID NOT CARRY, with the vote of each Councilman being as follows:
Lodico-YEA, Ledbetter-YEA, Fugate-ABSTAIN, Dietz-NAY and Mayor
Cairnie-NAY.
Councilman Dietz duly moved to accept the bid of Paul R. Ohlson,
said motion being seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call
vote, said motion CARRIED, the vote of each Councilman being as
follows: Lodico-YEA, Ledbetter-ABSTAIN, Fugate-YEA, Dietz-YEA
and Mayor Cairnie-YEA.
A Resolution accepting the bid of Paul R. Ohlson was read by the
City Clerk as follows:

OF FOUR THOUSAND FOUR
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF
SMYRNA BEACH, FLORIDA, FOR TWO AIR COOLED
NATURAL GAS HEATING WITH TWO CONTROL THERMO-
ONLY IN COMMUNITY CENTER BUILDING, FOR THE SUM
HUNDRED FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS ($4,452.00).
A Certification of Sufficient Funds Available was read by the
City Clerk, Elsie L. Ward.
Councilman Dietz duly moved to adopt said Resolution, said motion
being seconded by Councilman Fugate and upon roll call vote, said
motion CARRIED, with Councilman Ledbetter ABSTAINING

Mayor Cairnie pointed out that the actual cost to the City of this
new system would be $4,152.00, since the City had already been
offered approximately $100.00 each for the three (3) old heaters.
Councilman Lodico duly moved to adjourn this portion of the Special
Meeting, said motion being seconded by Councilman Ledbetter.
A Special Meeting of the City Council for the City of Edgewater
was called to order at 10:15 A.M., by Mayor William H. Cairnie.
The purpose of the Special Meeting being to amend Ordinance No. 655
to appoint a Judge Pro Tern to serve in the absence or illness of
the regular Judge.
The amendment to Ordinance No. 655 was read by the City Clerk as

PROVIDE A MUNICIPAL JUDGE PRO TEM TO SERVE AS MUNICIPAL JUDGE
DURING ANY ABSENCE OR ILLNESS OF THE MUNICIPAL JUDGE AND SETTING
FORTH AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR.
Councilman Dietz duly moved to adopt said Ordinance, said motion
being seconded by Councilman Ledbetter, and upon roll call vote,
said motion CARRIED.
Councilman Dietz duly moved to waive the second reading of said
Ordinance, said motion being seconded by Councilman Ledbetter and
upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Councilman Dietz moved to instruct the City Clerk to notify Mr.
Lloyd A. Smith, Attorney, to be in Municipal Court Monday, July
13, 1970, at 9 A.M., to sit in as Judge Pro Tern for Judge David
Shannon, who is away on vacation. Said motion was seconded by
Councilman Fugate and upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED.
Councilman Fugate duly moved to adjourn the Special Meeting, said
motion being seconded by Councilman Ledbetter and CARRIED.
