06-01-1970 - Regular (; o o o THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER REGULAR MEETING JUNE 1, 1970 The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, was called to order Monday, June 1, 1970, at 7:30 P.M., by Mayor William H. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED, with Councilman Ledbetter ABSTAINING. A motion for approval of said bills and accounts for payment was duly made by Councilman Fugate and seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. OFFICERS REPORTS Certification of Posting Library Report for May The Officers Reports stated above were read by City Clerk, Elsie L. Ward. CO~1MUNICATIONS A letter from Fred Garlick, Secrelary of the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department, was read by City Clerk Elsie L. Ward. As spokesman for the Fire Department, Mr. Garlick was requesting the City Council supply $400.00 towards the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. Mr. Garlick further stated that an additional $450.00 would be supplied by the Fire Department. Councilman Ledbetter duly moved to grant the Fire Department the sam of $400.00; said motion was seconded by Councilman Fugate and upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. A letter from Mrs. Leslie Haughwout, 204 North Riverside Drive, was read by the City Clerk. Mrs. Haughwout stated that the street light in front of her home shines through the windows despite the drapes across the entire area. Mrs. Haughwout requested the City Council permit Florida Power & Light to place a reflector on the light. Councilman Dietz duly moved to turn the matter over to Councilman Lodico, who would report his findings on the matter at a later Council Meeting. Said motion was seconded by Councilman Ledbetter and upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. A letter of resignation from Elizabeth Crouser, Deputy Clerk, was read by City Clerk, Elsie L. Ward. The letter, dated May 20, 1970, submitted a two weeks' resignation notice. Councilman Lodico duly moved to accept the resignation of Mrs. Crouser, said motion being seconded by Councilman Ledbetter. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. A letter from Mrs. Cecelia Blakley, 906 Mary Street, was read by the City Clerk. Mrs. Blakley's letter expressed her appreciation to the Mayor and City Council for their promotion of the "Coffee Breaks" and to Mrs. and Mrs. Pasch for their services. Councilman Dietz expressed his wish to have a copy of Mrs. Blakley's letter forwarded to Mr. and Mrs. Pasch, along with a letter of thanks from the City Council. ORDINANCES - NONE RESOLUTIONS - NONE OLD BUSINESS - NONE -2- (; o (,,) o NEW BUSINESS Mr. J. Patrick Michaels of the TM Communications Company addressed the Council and announced that his company had been awarded a contract with the city of New Smyrna Beach at their meeting held Thursday, May 28, 1970. Mr. Michaels urged the Council to reconsider the prospect of cable teaevision for the Edgewater area. He also advised that should the Council accept a contract with his company, the same provisions; e.g., 10% profit, would be afforded the City of Edgewater as are now spelled out in the contract with New Smyrna Beach. After a brief question and answer period between the Council and Mr. Michaels, Councilman Lodico duly moved to instruct the City Attorney, Charles A. Hall, to meet with departmental heads of the TM Commun- ications Company to draw up a contract to be presented at a future Council Meeting. Said motion was seconded by Councilman Dietz and upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. Councilman Fugate stated that he would be leaving on vacation Wednesday, June 3, and would be returning to Edgewater approximately July 5. Councilman Fugate requested this fact be made a part of the record of this Council Meeting since he will be absent from the June 15 meeting. There being no further business, Councilman Ledbetter duly moved for adjournment of the meeting, said motion being seconded by Councilman Fugate and CARRIED. Time of Adjournment: 8:07 P.M.
