Sullivan was read by City Clerk Elsie L. Ward. The letter in content was a request from Mr. Sullivan that the City of Edgewater install a 20,500 i1luminous street light in front of the recently annexed property of approximately seven (7) acres to the City and known as Pyramid Mobile Home Park. Upon completion of the reading of said communication, Councilman Fugate moved to table the request of Mr. Sullivan until the Regular Meeting of the City Council scheduled for December 15, 1969, in order to check further into the purhcase of the street light. Said motion was seconded by Councilman Lodico and upon roll call vote, motion DID NOT CARRY: Councilmen Lodico and Fugate voting YEA, Councilman Dietz and Mayor Cairnie voting NAY. After a brief statement by Councilman Dietz on the importance of installing this particular street light for safety measures, Councilman Dietz duly moved to have the street light installed. Said motion DIED FOR LACK OF A SECOND. A letter from Attorney John E. Chisholm, on behalf of Richard W. Brotherton and Dolores C. Brotherton was read by City Clerk, Elsie L. Ward. Mr. Chisholm's letter requested approval from the City to fill a certain area owned by the Brothertons, specifically approximately sixty (60) feet of land at the end of Parkwood Lane. Mr. Chisholm noted in his request that City approval must come prior to approval by the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida. Councilman Dietz moved to give Mr. Chisholm permission, in the form of a letter, to apply to the Corp of Engineers to fill within 60 feet of the property belonging to the Brothertons. Said motion was seconded by Councilman Lodico and upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. -2- 6 Q o o ORDINANCES ORDINANCE NO. 642: AN ORDINANCE RAISING THE SALARY OF PAUL R. REAM AND OF HENRY I. MIDKIFF OF THE WATER DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, AND SIGURD OHRWALL AND KENNETH G. COOPER OF THE SEWER DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above stated Ordinance was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion to adopt this Ordinance was duly made by Councilman Lodico and seconded by Councilman Dietz. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. A motion for waivure of the second reading of said Ordinance was duly made by Councilman Dietz and seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call vote motion CARRIED. ORDINANCE NO. 643: AN ORDINANCE RAISING THE SALARY OF ELSIE L. WARD, CITY CLERK FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above and foregoing Ordinance was read in full by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion for adoption of this Ordinance was made by Councilman Dietz and seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call vote said motion CARRIED. A motion to waive the second reading was duly made by Councilman Dietz and seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call vote said motion CARRIED. ORDINANCE NO~ 644: AN ORDINANCE RAISING THE SALARY OF RUTH SEDGWICK, A CLERK IN THE WATER DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, TO THE SUM OF. $375.00 PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The Ordinance stated above was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion for adoption of this Ordinance was made by Councilman Lodico and seconded by Councilman Dietz. Motion CARRIED upon roll call vote. A motion for waivure of the second reading of stated Ordinance was made by Councilman Lodico and seconded by Councilman Dietz. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. ORDINANCE NO. 645: AN ORDINANCE RAISING THE SALARY OF ALVIN W. SHIPPEE, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE STREET DEPARTMENT AND SUPERIN- TENDENT OF THE GARBAGE AND TRASH DEPARTMENT, TO THE SUM OF $450.00 PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The above and foregoing Ordinance was read in full by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion to adopt stated Ordinance was duly made by Councilman Lodico and seconded by Councilman Fug~te~ Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. The above stated Ordinance was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion for adoption of stated Ordinance was duly made by Councilman Dietz and seconded by Councilman Fugate. Motion CARRIED upon roll call vote. A motion to waive the second reading was duly made by Councilman Dietz and seconded by Councilman Fugate. Said motion CARRIED upon roll call vote. RESOLUTIONS RESOLUTION NO. 321: A RESOLUTION INCREASING THE SALARY OF CLYDE W. HEATH, CHIEF OF POLICE FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, TO THE SUM OF $600.00 PER MONTH; AND INCREASING THE SALARIES OF OFFICERS E. A. MARTIN, W. K. BUCHER AND N. W. MCCALL, SR., PATROLMEN FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, TO THE SUMS OF $475.00 PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The Resolution stated above was read in full by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion to adopt said Resolution was duly made by Councilman Fugate and seconded by Councilman Lodico. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. RESOLUTION NO. 322: A RESOLUTION RAISING THE SALARY OF LINDA REYNOLDS, DEPUTY CLERK FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, TO THE SUM OF $300.00 PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The aforementioned Resolution was read by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion for adoption of said Resolution was made by Councilman Lodico and seconded by Councilman Fugate. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. RESOLUTION NO. 323: A RESOLUTION RAISING THE SALARY OF LEONA CARDEN, LIBRARIAN, TO THE SUM OF $250.00 PER MONTH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREFOR. The Resolution stated above was read in full by City Attorney Charles A. Hall. A motion to adopt this Resolution was made by Councilman Dietz and seconded by Councilman Fugate. Upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. OLD BUSINESS Councilman Lodico announced for the second time the informal meetings now being held on the second and fourth Mondays at City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., for the benefit of all Edgewater residents who might have any problems or complaints they wish discussed with the City Councilmen. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Dietz duly moved to advertise for bids on the sale of the old ftre truck, further stating all bids would be returned by February 2, 1970, at 4:00 P.M., specifications being available at the City Clerk's office, all bids to be "cashll only and giving the City Council the authority to accept or reject any or all bids. -4- o () o o NEW BUSINESS, CONTINUED Said motion was seconded by Councilman Fugate and upon roll call vote, said motion CARRIED. MISCELLANEOUS The following Proclamation was read by Mayor William H. Cairnie: Whereas, the City of Edgewater, in conjunction with the Oceanside Woman1s Club, the Florida Federation of Women1s Clubs, and the National Safety Council, is urging the citizens and visitors to Edgewater to enjoy ~ A Safe and Enjoyable Christmas Season - 196911, and Whereas, during the year 1968, 2,093 people were killed on Florida's highways as compared to 1,776 fatalities for 1967, or an 18% increase, and Whereas, during the month of December, 1968, alone, 219 persons were killed in accidents throughout the State with a total of 10,248 injuries incurred, and Whereas, most accidents are caused by driving too fast for conditions, driving in excess of a stated speed limit, bad weather, and by mixing drinking with driving; Now, Therefore, I William H. Cairnie, by virture of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Edgewater, do hereby proclaim the period of December 1, 1969, through January 2, 1970, as "A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE CHRISTMAS SEASON - 1969" and urge everyone to practice the Golden Rule, being especially thoughtful of the rights of others and to drive defensively with extreme cBution and care. I do further request that the people of Edgewater in decorating their homes and in preparing for this festive time of the year tL do so with extreme caution, eliminating all hazards where possible, so that this holiday season will be a merry and happy one for the residents of Florida and for the numerous visitors who come to our City at this time. In compliance with the recently passed "Government in the Sunshine" law, Mayor William H. Cairnie announced to the general public that the Council Work Shop meetings will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday morning before the regular meetings of the City Council each first and third Monday night of the month; these work shops will be open to the public. Additionally, in ,view of the forthcoming Holiday Season, any "work shop Thursday" which might fall on a holiday would be rescheduled and announced accordingly.
