06-27-1951 - Regular v v u " \.) REGULAR MEETING OF THE TO~~ COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, HELD IN THE TOWN HALL JUNE 27, 1951 ROLL CALL. Wood READING OF ~JNUTES Present Present Present Absent Absent Present Present The minutes of the regular meeting held June 13, 1951 were read. A motion was made by Councilman Friedley that the minutes be accepted, seconded by Mayor Councilman Fuller and by vote CARRIED. BILLS AND ACCOUNTS The following bills were read: Owens Brothers Concrete Guy C. Spargo City of New Smyrna Beach Volusia Tradtor & Implement Co. Edgewater Motors Edgewater Truck Stop Belva Sargent Si and Ruby Lowe $201.60 1.81 100.29 18.76 15.80 4.50 22.50 4.52 Councilman Friedley moved these bills be approved as read, paid and made a part of these minutes. Seconded by Mayor-Councilman Fuller and by vote CARRIED. REPORTS OF OFFICERS The Clerk reported on delinquent taxes owing on a lot on which J. W. Sikes is interewted in buying. The amount owing is $3.24. Mr. Friedley moved that Tax Sales Certificate #3 at the sale of 1945 for 1944 taxes be sold to Mr. Sikes for the face value of the Certificate. Seconded by Mayor-Councilman Fuller and by vote CARRIED. Mayor-Councilman Fuller Yes Councilman Frie dley Yes The Clerk also reported that Mr. J. W. Musson had offered the amount of Fifty ($50.00) Dollars to the Town of Edgewater as payment-for all unpaid taxes on his property. Mr. Friedley moved that Mr. Musson pay these taxes, seconded by Mayor-Councilman Fuller, and by vote CARRIED. Mayor-Councilman Fuller Yes Councilman Friedley Yes A report was made by the Clerk that Petitions had been filed to have the following names, John H. Gibbs and Howard B. Ranken, placed on the ballot at the Special Town Election to be held on July 17, 1951 for Town Councilman to serve the unexpired term of Councilman H. O. Kuhlhoff, resigned. The Clerk further reported that e~ch Petition was signed by twenty-five (25) or more qualified electors and was othe~iise in proper legal form. Councilman Friedley moved tha t these Petitions be accept1Da.nd the names of John H. Gibbs and Howard B. Ranken be placed on the official ballot, J ~ . ~ ~ n u u o seconded by Mayor-Councilman Fuller and by vote CARRIED. RESOLUTION: . A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE NOMINEES FOR THE OFFICE OF TOvlli COUNCILMAN OF THE TOWN OF EEGEWATER, FLOHIDA, TO BE ELECTED AT THE SPECIAL TOWN ELECTION TO BE HELD JULY 17, 1951, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PREPARATION AND PRINTING OF BALLOTS FOR SAID ELECTION. This Resolution was read in full and passed by the unanimous vote of the Town Council of the Town of Edgewater, Florida, at its meeting held on the 27th day of June, 1951, the vote of the Council being as follows: Mayor-Councilman Fuller Yes Councilman Friedley Yes Mayor-Councilman Fuller reported that the City of New Smyrna Beach had offered transportation, by bus, to the children of the Town of Edgewater, between the ages of 3 to 12 years. The bus will transport children daily, Monday through Friday, to the beach at New Smyrna. A protected area has been provided for children of the above ages, and adult super- vision has been arranged for. For this service the Town of Edgewater may make a token payment to the City of New Smyrna, if they so desire. Councilman Friedley made a motion that Town Clerk Spargo be given a 30 day leave of absence, with pay, because of illness. This was seconded by Mayor-Councilman Fuller, and by vote CARRIED. Mayor-Councilman Fuller Yes Councilman Friedley Yes Mayor-Councilman Fuller reported that Attorney Hawkins was unable to be at the meeting due to illness, and anyone wishing to discuss the Charter could meet with Mr. Hawkins after the Regular Council Meeting July 11, 1951. Councilman Friedley moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Mayor-Councilman Fuller, and by vote CARRIED. Time: 8:25 P. M.
