2007-R-09RESOLUTION NO. 2007-R-09 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING DAYTONA BEACH COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN ITS APPLICATION TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION PROGRAM; REPEALING RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, has made the following determinations: WHEREAS, the State of Florida has a pressing and unmet need for teachers in its public schools; and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College has demonstrated success in operating the Bachelor in Applied Science in Supervision and Management degree; and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College is accredited as a Level II institution by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Commission on Colleges; and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College conducts an alternative teacher certification program for over one hundred (100) teacher candidates; and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College has an outstanding faculty; and WHEREAS, Daytona Beach Community College is committed to academic excellence and student success. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida: Section 1. The above recitals are true and correct and by this reference are hereby incorporated into and made an integral part of this resolution as though fully set forth herein. Section 2. The City of Edgewater supports Daytona Beach Community College in its 2007-R-09 application for a Bachelor of Science in Education with programs in the following seven (7) areas: ♦ Mathematics (grades 6-12) ♦ Biology (grades 6-12) ♦ Chemistry (grades 6-12) ♦ Earth/Space Science (grades 6-12) ♦ Physics (grades 6-12) ♦ Exceptional Student Education (ESE) - (grades K-12) ♦ Elementary Education (grades K-6) Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this Resolution, or application hereof, is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any Court, such portion of application shall be deemed a separate, distinct, and independent provision, and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or application hereof. Section 4. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. Section 5. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
