MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA HELD May 27th, 1953.
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida was called to order by Mayor John H. Gibbs at 7:30 P.M.

The minutes of the Regular Meeting held May 13th were read. Motion
by Councilman Haughton these minutes stand approved as read, seconded
by Councilman Shaeffer and by vote CARRIED.

Motion by Councilman Shaeffer these bills be paid and be made a part
of the minutes, seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED.
COr-lMUNICATIONS
A letter from Mr. Oatman and Mr. St.John was read asking the City
Council for the privilege of expanding their present business. After
a discussion a motion was made by Councilman Shaeffer these gentlemen
be allowed to expand their present business as per plan already sub-
mitted to this Council sometime ago. Seconded by Councilman Haughton
and by vote CARRIED. Roll Call vote being as follows:-

ORDINANCES
ORDINANCE #36 CONCERNING THE APPOINT~lliNT OF A FIRE CHIEF FOR THE CITY
OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA.
The above Ordinance was read in full and passed by the vote of the
City Council of the City of Edgewater,. Florida at a regular meeting
on the 27th day of May A.D. 1953.

Upon motion duly made by Councilman Hussey and seconded by Council-
man Haughton and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the ordinance was
ordered put upon final passage.
Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 27th day
of May, A.D. 1953 and approved as provided by Law, the vote of said
Council on roll call being as follows:-

OLD BUSINESS
Mayor Gibbs stated he had received a letter from the Road Department
pertaining to the ponding condition on U. S. Highway #1 and Palmway
St. and they informed him it would be up to the City to take care of
this.
Mr. Shaeffer ask if something could not be done thru the health
department about Mr. Barrow's leaving old ''later mellon rinds out in
front of his place of business after closing as they drew flies and
was a menace to health. Mayor Gibbs stated Dr. Higgins would be
contacted and a report of this condition made to him.
NEW BUSINESS
Councilman Shaeffer read Section #5 of Ordinance #15 which states
quote "It shall be unla''lful for any owner or operator of any es-
tablishment within the scope of this ordinance, within the City
Limits of the City of Edgewater, Florida, to post or maintain out-
door or outside advertising signs in connection with any such es-
tablishment which shall have thereon any misleading, false or frau-
dulent representations. Councilman Shaeffer recommended the Clerk
be instructed to write a letter to Mr. Pyevac enclosing a copy of
this ordinance and ask that he make the proper corrections.
There being no further business Councilman Hussey moved we do now
adjourn, seconded by Councilman Shaeffer and by vote CARRIED.
