11-04-1953 - Special (2) '" v ,.. v v u SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA HELD NOVEMB~R 4th, 1953. A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida was called to order by Mayor John H. Gibbs at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Mayor-Councilman John H. Gibbs Councilman E. P. Fuller Councilman C. C. Shaeffer Councilman A. Hussey Councilman H. L. Haughton City Clerk Frank F. Dippery City Attorney John Chisholm Police Officer Frank Norman Street Supervisor John Wood Present Present Present Present Present Present Present Present Present The purpose of this meeting was to announce the results of the Regular Election and seat the newly elected Mayor and Councilmen. Old business to be cleaned up was the reading of the minutes of the Regular Council Meeting of October 12th, a Special meeting October 14th, a Special meeting October 28th, a Special meeting October 30th and a Special meeting November 4th. Motion by Council- man Shaeffer these minutes stand approved as read, seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED. The Clerk also read a letter of resignation from Deputy Clerk Ruth Driskel. Motion by Councilman Haughton the resignation of the Deputy Clerk be accepted, seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED. Before turning the meeting over to the Clerk, retiring Mayor Gibbs thanked all those who had given him support. At this point the Clerk read the Certificates of Election, naming George E. Lear, Mayor, Percy N. Loveland, Crawford C. Shaeffer, A. Hussey and R. Lee Freeman Councilmen. These gentlemen stepped forward and took the Oath of Office. A motion was then in order and Councilman Hussey moved the old Council retire, seconded by Councilman .shaeffer and by vote CARRIED. Retiring Mayor Gibbs then seated the new Councilmen and turned the Gavel over to Mayor Lear. RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA DULY AND LEGALLY ORGANIZED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF LAW APPLICABLE THERETO. The above and foregoing Resolution was read in full and Councilman Shaeffer moved it be adopted. Seconded by Councilman Freeman and by vote CARRIED. Nonimations for Vice-Mayor were in order and Councilman Loveland nominated Councilman Shaeffer for Vice-Mayor, seconded by Council- man Freeman and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Loveland Councilman Shaeffer Councilman Hussey Councilman Freeman Mayor Lear Yes Pass Yes Yes Yes The Mayor and Councilmen, each in turn pledged their full support and co-operation during the term of office. The Clerk read a letter from the Secretary of the Volunteer Fire Department recommending Fred Garlick be re~appointed Fire Chief. Councilman Shaeffer stated it gave him great pleasure to make a motion naming our good friend Fred Garlick Fire Chief for the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department for the coming year, seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED.
