The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida held November 9th, 1953 was called to order by Mayor George E. Lear at 7:30 P.M. Invocation was delivered by Rev. OFFICERS REPORT The Clerk read the Budget Report and the Clerk's Cash statement for the month of October, 1953. COW~UNICATIONS A letter was read from Mrs. Lib Laswell, Chairman of the School Boy Patrol, New Smyrna Beach asking the City to sponsor one or more boys or aid in the expense of one boy on their annual trip to Washington D.C. Motion by Councilman Freeman this communication be tabled until the Council has time to go into this matter further, seconded by Council- man Shaeffer, and by vote CARRIED. Councilman Freeman stated he had contacted Mr. Frank Genter, a Cer- tified Public Accountant regarding the Auditing of the books, stating Mr. Genter could start the Audit on November 10th if the Council so desired. Councilman Freeman then made a motion to employ Mr. Genter to Audit the Books, said motion being seconded by Councilman IIussey and by vote CARRIED. " " o ~ u v ORDINANCES ORDINANCE #49 AMENDING SECTION 6 (a) (b) (c) AND ADDING A SUB- SECTION TO SECTION 7, SAID SUB-SECTION BEING DESIGNATED (f) OF ORDINANCE NO.8 OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA. The above Ordinance was read in full by Attorney Chisholm. There being no objections, Councilman Shaeffer moved it be adopted, seconded by Councilman Hussey and passed by the vote of said Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting on the 9th day of November, A.D. 1953. Upon motion duly made by Councilman Shaeffer and seconded by Council- man Freeman and carried the requirement of reading said ordinance upon reading was waived, and the ordinance was ordered put upon final passage. The above Ordinance appointing Adolph LaBonde Building Inspector was read in full and motion made by Councilman Freeman to adopt this Ordinance, seconded by Councilman Loveland and passed by the vote of said Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting on the 9th day of November, A.D. 1953. Upon motion duly made by Councilman Shaeffer and seconded by Council- man Loveland and carried the requirement of reading said ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the ordinance was ordered put upon final passage. The above Ordinance Terminating the services of Russell Leslie as Patrolman for the City of Edgewater was read in full and motion made by Councilman Freeman to adopt this Ordinance, seconded by Councilman Loveland and passed by the vote of said Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting on the 9th day of November, A.D. 1953. Upon motion duly made by Councilman Loveland and seconded by Councilman Freeman and carried the requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second reading was warted, and the ordinance was ordered put upon final passage. The above and foregoing Resolution was read in full and motion made by Councilman Hussey it be adopted, said motion being seconded by Councilman Shaeffer. Upon motion duly made by Councilman Loveland and seconded by Councilman Freeman and carried the requirement of reading said Resolution upon second reading was waived and upon roll call vote the said Resolution was duly declared adopted at the Regular meeting of said Council held the 9th day of November, A.D. 19?3, roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Shaeffer Yes Councilman Hussey Yes Councilman Freeman Yes Councilman Loveland Yes Mayor Lear Yes NEW BUSINESS The Clerk read a letter f rom the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department stating that a Special Meeting of the Volunteer Fire Department held Nov. 9th, at 7:00 o'clock had unanimously voted that the siren be blown on time clock at 12:00 o'clock noon as in the past. Councilman Shaeffer moved this letter be approved and that the Siren be turned on to operate the next day, seconded by Council- man Hussey. Councilman Freeman then moved this letter be tabled for further consideration. No. second. A lengthy discussion followed and Councilman Freeman with drew his motion. The Mayor and various persons in the room gave remarks regarding the siren and Councilman Shaeffer ask for the floor stating he himself was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and in all his travels he had never worked with a finer body of men working tOfether with never a word of descension.
