SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA,
HELD APRIL 13th, 1954.
A Special meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida was called to order by Mayor George E. Lear at 7:30 P.M.

The purpose of the meeting was to consider certain emergency
measures arising because of the necessity of Mayor George E.
Lear reporting to a hospital.
Mayor Lear presented a letter to the Council asking for a
leave of absence to enable him to report to a Veterans
Hospital for treatment. Length of time not specified as
it will be up to the hospital authorities.
After a unanimous consent of the Council a motion was made by
Councilman Hussey appointing Councilman Shaeffer as Acting
Mayor in the absence of the Mayor until such time as he can
fill-his office again. Seconded by Councilman Loveland and by
vote Carried. Roll call vote being as follows:-

A discussion fomlowed about financing the Community Center
Building. The Council agreed the work should be allowed to
go on laying up the block and pouring the lentils, thereby
tying it together to make it safe.
Motion by Councilman Hussey to appoint Councilman Freeman as
chairman of a committee to contact Mr. John DeBerry and find
out what the requirements are in order to borrow money from
the bank. Seconded by Coun9ilman Shaeffer and by vote CARRIED.
Councilman Shaeffer stated he would pay up to $100.00 on the
salary of Jack Harrod for block laying covering the week of April
12th.
There being ~o further business, Councilman Hussey moved we do
now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Shaeffer and by vote CARRIED.
