The ReEular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Ed~ewater,
Florida was called to order by Acting MAyor CrAwford C. Shaeffer
June 14th, 1954 at 7:30 P.M.

The minutes of a Regular Meeting held May 10th, 1954 were read.
Motion by Councilman Freeman these minutes stand approved as
read, seconded by Councilman Loveland and by vote CARRIED.

Motion hy Councilman Loveland these bills be paid and be made a
part of the minutes with the exception of the one for insurance
from W. L. Robertson. Seconded by Councilman Freeman and by vote
CARftIED.
OFFICERS REPORT
The Clerk read the Budget report and the Clerk's Cash Statement for
the Month of May.
ORDINANCES
ORDINANCE #66 VACATI~G THAT PART OF FLAGLER AVENUE SOUTH OF A LINE
CONNECTING THE SOUTHERLY BOUNDARIES OF LOTS 13 AND 30, EDGEWATER
ACRES, BEING A SUBDIVISION IN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA AS
PER MAP IN MAP BOOK 11, PAGE 299, PUBLIC RECORDS OF VOLUSIA COUNTY,
FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING FOR THE REVERSION OF THE ABANDONED PORTIONS
OF SAID FLAGLER AVENUE TO THE ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS.
The above ordinance was read in full and motion made by Councilman
Freeman for its adoption, seconded by Councilman Hussey and passed
by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida
at a regular meeting held on the 14th day of June, A.D. 1954.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Freeman, seconded by Councilman
Loveland and carried the requirement of readine said ordinance upon
second reading was waived, and the ordinance was ordered put upon
fin~l passage.

Florida, at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 14th day

CO~~JNICATIONS
The Clerk read a letter from the City of New Smyrna Beach regarding
the School Childrens summer recreational program asking for a con-
tribution towards the expenses of this program.
Motion was made by Councilman Freeman we make the usual donation
toward this program to the City of New SmyrnR Beach. Seconded by
Councilman Loveland, and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being
as fol10ws:-

A letter from the Veterans Memorial Committee was also read asking
for a contribution for the Soldiers' Monument to he erected in the
Veterans Memorial Park, New Smyrna Reach, Florida.
Motion by Councilman Freeman that the City donate $100.00 to the
Veterans Memorial and Rlso $100.00 to the Community Center Fund.
Motion withdrawn. A motion WAS then made by Councilman Hussey to
donate $100.00 to the Veterans. Memorial in New Smyrna Beach, second-
ed hy Councilman T,ovel.and and hy vote CARRIED. Roll call vote

A motion was then made by Council~~n Freeman to donate a like amount
of $100.00 to the Comm"nitv Center Fund. Seconded hy Councilman

A letter was a1Ao read from propertv nwner8 on Yel~ca Terrace stating
they had contacted Walter Rradrlock in charge of Mn~~lito Control
regarding weeks in the Dohman Grove and four va~ant lots on the South
side of Yelkca TArrace which are owned bv Mr. & Mr~. T,nhman and had
been advised sprayinE would prove ineffective AS lone AS this con-
dition prevailed.
Councilman 10veland stated where we have a comnJaint of 50~ of the
property owners about a certain parcel of land: we have the Police
make a tour of inspection and if found to he in bad condition, notify
the owner to clean up same within a given time And if it is not done,
we go ahead and do it. Councilman Loveland then made a motion to
have the Clerk write a letter to Mr. Lohman referrin~ to the lot
cleaning Ordinance on books of the City of Edgewater~and notify him
to clean same or the City will go in and clean same. No second.
After a rliscussion this motion WAS withdrawn.

Acting Mayor Shaeffer then Ask the Clerk to write a letter to all
parties who had signed this letter, stating there is nothing on
the books to give us the authority to go onto any property to cleAn
it up.
Motion was then made bv Councilman Loveland a Jetter be written to
Mr. Lohman stating thai if he would be interested we would agree
to use our equipment at no cost to him. Seconded by Councilman
Freeman and by vote CARRIED.
A letter w~s also read from R. M. Rakestraw asking to purchase
for the sum of $200.00 that parcel of land described as follows:-
That part West of the Florida East Coast Railway, the South west
quarter of the South west quarter of the West one half of the
North west quarter of Section 33, Township l7S Range 34 East being
approximately ten acres.
Motion was made by Councilman Freeman to table this communication,
Seconded by Councilman HURsey and by vote CARRIED.
Acting Mayor Shaeffer stated we had loaned the City of New Smyrna
a police revolver and ask permission to sell same to them. Motion
was made by Councilman Hussey ,to sell the City of New Smyrna Beach
this revolver for the sum of $35.00. Seconded by Councilman Freeman
and by vote CARRIED.
NEW BUSINESS
A discussion followed about street paving and it was agreed to hold
a Joint Special Meetinf with the PlAnning Board on Wednesday, June
16th at 7:00 o'clock to settle differences on the selections of
streets to be paved. The Clerk was instructed to notifv Olen
Matthews, Secretary of the Planning Board of this meeting.
The Clerk was also instructed to get in touch with W. L. Robertson
regarding Liability Insurance on the Dump Truck and have the
figures ready for this special meeting.
Councilman Freeman made a motion that the C011ncil present Miss
Pat Poland a Resolution in appreciation of her winning the Crown
of Miss New Smyrna'Beach, stating we should all be proud of our
Fire Department in selecting Miss Poland to represent us. A
rising vote of thanks was given Miss Poland. Councilman Freeman
also made a motion that we at this time made some provision to
present a gift of some kind to Miss Pol~nd in token of appreciation
from the City of Edgewater, and designate Mrs. Dippery to make
the selection. Not in excess of $25.00. Seconded by r.ouncilman
Hussey and by vote CARRIED.
There being no further business, Councilman Hussey moved we do now
adjourn, seconded by Councilman Freeman and by vote CARRIED.
