REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA
COUNTY, FLORIDA HELD NOVEMBER 8th, 1954.
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida held November 8th was called to order by Mayor George E.
Lear at 7:30 P.M.

The minutes of a Regular Meeting held October 11th and a Special
Meeting held October 13th and a Special Meeting held Nov. 3rd were
read. Motion by Councilman Loveland these minutes stand approved
as read, seconded by Councilman Ranken and by vote CARRIED.

Motion by Councilman Shaeffer these bills be paid and be made a
part of the minutes, seconded by Councilman Hussey and be vote
CARRIED.
OFFICERS REPORT
The Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement and the Budget Report
for the month of October, 1954.
COMMUNICATIONS
A letter received from Robert Poland and Florence Swiney was read.
Also a letter from Helen Kiep, Secretary of Edgewater Recreation
Board was read regarding aquiring uplands opposite the City Property.
Councilman Loveland recommended that the Attorney write to Sinclair
Wells in regards to acquiring this uplands property.

A letter was also read from the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Dept.
recommending Fred Garlick as Fire Chief. Motion by Councilman
Ranken this letter of appointment be accepted, seconded by
Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED.
RESOLUTIONS
A RESOLUTION APPOINTING A FIRE CHIEF FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA.
The above and foregoing Resolution was read in full and motion
made by Councilman Hussey for its adoption, said motion being
seconded by Councilman Ranken and upon roll call vote said
Resolution was duly declared adopted this 8th day of November,
A. D. 1954. Vote of said Council on Roll Call being as follows:-

ORDINANCES
ORDINANCE #76 DESIGNATING AND APPOINTING A CITY ATTORNEY FOR THE
CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA AND SETTING FORTH A
COMPENSATION FOR SUCH OFFICE.
The above Ordinance appointing Attorney Chisholm as City Attorney
was read in full and passed by the vote of the City Council of
the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting held on the
8th day of November, A.D. 1954. Motion was made by Councilman
Shaeffer for the adoption of this Ordinance, seconded by Councilman
Hussey and by vote CARRIED.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Loveland, seconded by Councilman
Ranken and carried, the requirement of reading said Ordinance upon
second reading was waived, and the ordinance was ordered put upon
final passage.
Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 8th day
of November, A. D. 1954 and approved as provided by Law, the vote
of said Council on roll call being as follows:-

NEW BUSINESS
A petition was presented to the Mayor and Council asking a traffic
officer be appointed to direct traffic at the Union Church crossing
on U. S. #1 for the opening of Sunday School and Church and also
at the closing period.
Motion by Councilman Hussey that we have a Police Officer on duty
at the Church before church and 15 minutes before closing of
church. After a discussion this motion was withdrawn.
Motion was then made by Councilman Shaeffer that Mr. Norman be on
traffice duty at the church before and after church until ,we can
contact Mr. Luster about a traffic light to be operated only at
this time. Seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote carried.
The Clerk was instructed to write a letter to Rev. Clifford what
action had been taken and the protection offered.
Building Inspector George O. Sedgwick ask about the~ection of a

sign at the corner of Lamont Street and U.S. #1. After a
lengthy discussion Councilman Hussey moved that no more signs be
permitted in the City. No second.
There being no further business, Councilman Shaeffer moved we do
now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Ranken and by vote CARRIED.
