Mr. Goesens, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of New Smyrna Beach gave an outline of the work to be done by that association for the coming year and the appointments made. COflJ1\'tUNICA TIONS A letter was read from Nat Brown whereby he agreed to pay the City of Edgewater the sum of #36.00 per year for a period of two years for the installation of two new street lights on Flagler Ave. in the vicinity of his new subdivision. \ \ \ \ \ Motion by Councilman Shaeffer that this agreement be accepted and aletter written to the Florida Power & Light Company asking for the installation of these lights. Seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED. A~torney Chisholm was ask to get in tough with the FEC Ry. Co. and see if crossing lights could be installed at Park Ave. I , . - ~ " ~ u u J A request from Fire Chief Fred Garlick was also read asking for permission to purchase two gas masks and trickle charger for battery on Fire Truck. Motion by Councilman Hussey that the clerk be instructed to make out an order for two Gas Masks and a Tric~le Charger for the battery on Fire Truck. Seconded by Councilman Ranken and by vote CARRIED. The Clerk ask that a dead line be placed on Licensing Dogs before being picked up. Councilman Loveland set the date of April 1st as the dead line and notices be placed in the,New Smyrna and Daytona Beach papers. The Clerk reported there were three Edgewater Boys eligible to go to Washin[ton with the School Boy Patrol. Councilman Loveland donated $5.00 and Councilman Shaeffer donated $5.00 toward this fund. Mayor Lear stated there would be a Card Party at the Community Center Wednesday March 30th, 1955 sponsored by the Edgewater Civic Association and all proceeds to go to this fund. A letter from the Smyrna Beach Saddle Club was read stating that the Cow ~ony Frolics dates were March 25, 26 and 27, andasking the City of Edgewater, the Fire Department and the Youth Council to enter something in this parade. Motion by Councilman Shaeffer, that the Fire Chief enter his apparatus and anyone who wishes to participate in the parade to do so. Seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED. Motion by Councilman Shaeffer that you Mr. ~ear as Mayor of the City of Edgewater issue a Proclamation declaring March 25, 26 and 27 Cow Pony Frolics days and enter into the spirit of Cow'Boys and Cow Girls. Seconded by Councilman Loveland and by vote CARRIED. Councilman Loveland stated he had been approached by the wife of Col. Elder to ask if anything could be done to lay the dust on Dixwood Ave. Mayor Lear stated we did have a pipe to spread oil but no oil. Councilman Hussey said he knew where there was plenty of oil but we lacked containers and Councilman Loveland stated he had drums at his place of business they could use. Councilman Shaeffer stated he would not take any part of this and would resign from the Street Department first as he would not ask his street man to do this as he was over-worked at the present and should not be asked to do any more. ORDINANCES ORDINANCE NO. 80 AMENDING SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 57 OF THE CITY OF E0GEWAT6R, VO~USIA CCUNTY, FLORIDA. The above ordinance was read in full and passed hy the vote of the City Council of the City of Edeewater, Florida, at a regular meetink held on the 14th day of March, A.D. 1955. Motion made by Councilman Loveland to adopt this ordinance but make it retroactive as of March 1st, seconded by Councilman Hussey and by vote CARRIED. Upon motion duly made by Councilman Shaeffer and seconded by Councilman Hanken and carried, the requirement of reading said ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the ordinance was ordered put upon final passace. Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meetin~ of said Council held on the 14th day of March, A.D. 1955 and approved as provided hy Law, the vote of said Council on roll call beine as follows:- " ., v u w J Councilman Shaeffer Yes Councilman Hussey Yes Councilman Ranken Yes Councilman Loveland Yes Mayor Lear Yes NEW BUSINESS Councilman Shaeffer recommended to the City Council that we have some smaller maps made of the City. Councilman Ranken was appointed to find out the cost of such maps and report back. A discussion on solicitin~ for water connections followed and Mr. Peyton reported if each street was solicited by one party and he in turn reoorted back to the Councilman in his district this job could be. accomplished in one week. Motion by Councilman Loveland that each Councilman together with members of the planning board in his particular district take the responsibility of soliciting his entire zone either by himself or appoint a helper and said Councilman take the responsibility of turning in a report on March 28th. Seconded by Councilman Ranken and by vote CARRIED. Motion by Councilman Loveland that a Special Account be set up in the Bank of New Smyrna for deposits of this fund to be held in trust for 18 months. Seconded by Councilman Shaeffer and by ( vote CARRIED. Councilman Hussey stated he was not in favor of taking water from New Smyrna Beach at this price and wanted to go on record as apposing it, but if 70% of the peop~e were in favor of taking it he would go along. Mrs. E. S. Chapman came before the Council and ask for Sunday Opening. Referring to places in the County such as Allendale and South Daytona who sold Liquor on Sunday. She was ihformed that she could sell beer on Sunday but was advised to put it to a vote of the people this fall for Sunday openine to sell Liquor.
