REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA
COUNTY, FLORIDA HELD NOVEMBER 14th, 1955.
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida held November 14th, 1955 was called to order by Mayor
George O. Sedgwick at 7:30 P.M.

The Minutes of the Meeting held November 9th, 1955 were read. Motion
by Councilman Friedley these minutes stand approved as read, seconded
by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED.

Motion by Councilman Washburn these bills be paid and be made a part

RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A BANK AS DEPOSITORY FOR ALL FUNDS BELONGING
TO THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA.
The above Resolution desigDating the Bank of New Smyrna as the Bank
depository for all City funds was read in full by Attorney Brannon
and motion duly made by Councilman Washburn to adopt said resolution,
seconded by Councilman Friedley and unanimously carried. The vote
of said Council on roll call being as follows:-

ORDINANCES
ORDINANCE NO. 88 APPOINTING A CITY CLERK FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND SETTING THE CO~~ENSATION FOR SUCH SERVICES.
The above ordinance was read in full by Attorney Brannon appointing
Frank F. Dippery City Clerk and motion made by Councilman Friedley
for its adoption, duly seconded by Councilman John and carriedl.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Friedley, seconded by Councilman
Washburn and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was put
upon final passage.
Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 14th day

ORDINANCE No. 89 APPOINTING A CHIEF OF POLICE FOR THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA AND SETTING THE COMPENSATION FOR SUCH SERVICES.
The above Ordinance appointing Francis H. Norman, Chief of Police
was read in full ~ Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman
John for its adoption and duly seconded by Councilman Farrell.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Washburn, seconded by Councilman
Friedley and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was put
upon final passage.

The above Ordinance appointing Fred R. Brannon, Jr. City Attorney
was read in full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman
Friedley this ordinance be adopted, aseconded by Councilman Wash-
burn and carried.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman John, seconded by Councilman
Friedley and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was put
upon final passage.

read in full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman
Washburn this ordinance be adopted, seconded by Councilman John
and carried.

Friedley and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was put

FLORIDA AND SETTING THE COMPENSATION FOR SUCH SERVICES.
The above Ordinance appointing Hoyt L. Peck, Janitor was read in
full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman Friedley
this ordinance be adopted, seconded by Councilman Farrel and
carried.

The above Ordinance appointing Vera McLane, Librarian was read in
full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman Farrell
this ordinance be adopted, seconded by Councilman John and carried.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Washburn and seconded by Council-
man John and unanimously carried, the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was put

ORDINANCE NO. 94 APPOINTING A FIRE CHIEF FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING FOR HIS DUTIES AND COMPENSATION.
The above Ordinance appointing Fred Garlick, Fire Chief was read in
full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman Friedley this
ordinance be adopted, seconded by Councilman Farrell and carried.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Washburn and seconded by Council-
man John and unanimously carried, the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was put
upon final passage.

NEW BUSINESS
The Clerk ask for a motion to issue vouchers to the Election Board
for the Election of November 8th. Motion was made by Councilman
Friedley to pay the board the regular pay of $7.50 per person.
Seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRMED.
Motion was made by Councilman Washburn that Mr. John be appointed
Special Police Officer for Sunday Church Duty without pay. Seconded
by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED.
Mayor Sedgwick read bids on a new Police Car.

Motion by Councilman Farrell we pur.chase the Chevrolet at a price
of $900.00 with turn in, seconded by Councilman John and by vote
CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

A price on a two way receiver and transmitter Radio, 20 Watt set,
Comco make, rear mount type was quoted as $460.00 less trade in of
old radio of $100. leaving a balance of #360. Also Red Light, top
mount type, 4 way and Siren, 12 volt no light at $97.42.
Motion by Councilman Washburn we purchase two-way Radio receiver
and transmitter and other accessories. Seconded by Councilman John
and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

In other business Councilman Washburn made a motion that a letter
be written to the Bank of New Smyrna authorizing the signatures
of the Mayor and Clerk to sign checks. Seconded by Councilman John
and by vote CARRIED.
Councilman John stated it was time to begin thinking of the Children's
Xmas Party and Mayor Sedgwick appointed Councilman John to see the
other orginizations for donations for this Party.
Mayor Sedgwick ask the Attorpey to draw up a Lot Cleaning Ordinance
with teeth in it asking that vacant lots be cleaned at least twice
a year. He also ask him to see what could be done about the old
Christensen Estate and report back.
A discussion followed about an appointment of an Acting Mayor to serve in
the absence of the Mayor and motion was made by Councilman Washburn
that Raymond T. Friedley he appointed Acting Mayor, seconded by
Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED.
