Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Volusia County, Florida held March 12th, 1956 was called to order by Mayor George O. Sedgwick at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Mayor George O. OFFICERS REPORT The Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement and the Budget report for the month of February, 1956. COMMUNICATIONS A letter was read from Dorothy D. Murton, Chairman of Edgewater Red Cross Division asking for a contribution. Motion made by Councilman Washburn we contribute the same amount as last year ($20.00) to this cause. Seconded by Councilman Friedley and by' vote CARRIED. u o o o 1 A letter was also read from the Zoning Board recommending set- back and depth of Business lots in B-1 Business District. After a discussion this letter was tabled for further study. RESOLUTIONS A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A PROPOSAL FOR A WATER SUPPLY TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL PLANT AND DIRECTING THE PREPARATION OF WORKING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS. The above Resolution was read in full and motion made by Council- man Friedley this resolution be adopted as read. Seconded by Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED. The above resolution renaming numbered streets in Edgewater Acres was read in full and motion made by Councilman Washburn this re- solution be adopted as read. Seconded by Councilman Friedley and by vote CARRIED. The above Ordinance was read in full and motion made by Councilman Friedley to adopt this Ordinance, seconded by Councilman Farrell and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a Regular Meeting held on the 12th day of March, 1956. Upon motion duly made by Councilman John, seconded by Councilman Washburn and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was ordered put upon final passage. The above Ordinance appointing Frieda John, Manager for the Com- munity Center on a temporary basis was read in full and motion made by Councilman Washburn to adopt this Ordinance, seconded by Council- man Friedley and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a regular meeting held on the 12th day of March, A.D. 1956. Upon motion duly made by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Washburn and carried the requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second reading was waived and the Ordinance was ordered put upon final passage. Fuller's Plat of Highway lots was laid on the table and a discussion followed about the 18 Ft. strip being an accepted street. Mayor Sedgwick stated this would be tabled until further study. Four Quit Claim Deeds were presented from E.H. & Maybelle Lohman, Stanley & Caroline Seng, Sr., Ruth Blake and Ryta Webber, deeding land to the City of Edgewater for the extention of Evergreen Street. Motion by Councilman Friedley these deeds be accepted and recorded, seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Washburn Yes Councilman Friedley Yes Councilman John Yes Councilman Farrell Yes Mayor Sedgwick Yes A Petition was presented by Mr. Burrier protesting the unfair and unreasonable selection by our City Officials of the streets to be black-topped this year. Mayor Sedgwick stated this petition was not debatable. Fire Chief Garlick spoke of the fire hazard created by the County Pit employees burnin~ off before digging without due care and one to two of which have spread to subdivisions in that area en- dangering lives and homes of that section. Mayor Sedgwick stated he would write a letter to Mr. Ferris and County Commissioner Saxon about this. Mr. Brown also entered a complaint about burming at the City Dump. He was advised if the parties were caught setting fire to the dump they would be brought in and prosecuted. There being no further business Councilman Friedley moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED. Time 9:15 P.M.
