07-23-1956 - Regular u o o u REGULAR ViliETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, HELD JULY 23rd, 1956. The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, held July 23rd, 1956 was called to order by Mayor George O. Sedgwick at 1:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Mayor George O. Brannon, Jr. Present Present Present Absent Present Present Absent The Minutes of the Regular Meeting held July 16th were read. Motion by Councilman Friedley these minutes stand approved as read, second- ed by Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED. co~mUNICATIONS A letter was read from Lyman L. Gage, Secretary of East Flagler Mosquito Control District acknowledging payment of $225.00 on Farmall Cub Tractor. A letter from Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Co. was read stating the legal department of the Florida State Road Department had ruled that they are authorized to accept the signature of the Mayor, City Manager, or President of the City Councilor Commission. The signature of the City Clerk or other officials may be accepted provided the City Council authorizes his signature and notifies the department of this authorization. Motion by Councilman Friedley the City Council authorize the signature of the City Clerk as requested by the Bell Telephone & Telegraph Co. Seconded by Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED. Letter was read from Henry J. Burke asking that the property of Mrs. Smith be cleaned up. This was read at the last meeting of the Council and Councilman Friedley volunteered to look into this. He reported back that Mrs. Smith would clean up her fence row and the other under- growth was on City property, which has already been taken care of. Petition was also read asking the City to re-locate the City Dump. There were (orty-two signatures on this petition and Mayor Sedgwick stated this Council has been very uneasy about the condition ex- isting at the dump and it was a serious proposition. He stated the State requirements and the approximate cost and also that the City at the present had no money to remedy the situation, but possibly something could be worked out later. A committee from the Chamber of Commerce were present and Mayor Sedgwick ask Mr. Fuller to come forward and present the Chamber proposal for a Dock & recreation area. Mr. Fuller stated that for a number of years we have been working for recreation facilities and a fishing pier and the Chamber of Commerce had appointed this committee to approach the City Council for the proper approval by Resolution and later an Ordinance setting~ide the propert~cquired from the State opposite the City Property and foot of Park Ave. for this purpose. He ask that the City Engineer stake oub the area and permits be procured by the City. 'G o o () Motion by Councilman Friedley the City draw up proper Resolution authorizing Pier, Dock & Recreation Area and arrange for City Engineer to stake out the area. Seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED. Permits from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after plan is submitted. There being no further business Councilman Farrell moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Friedley and by vote CARRIED.
