The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida held August 13th, 1956 was called to order by Mayor George O. Sedgwick at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Mayor George O. OFFICERS REPORT The Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement and the Budget Report for the Month of July, 1956. Also Librarian's Report for the Month. Fire Chief Garlick reported no business, but advised the Auxiliary Truck was ready to roll. COIvIMUNICA TIONS An Appreciation Card was read from George E. Lear. Lettemread from the Edgewater Civic Club and also Chamber of Commerce petitioning the City to set aside Pine Island for recreational purposes. A letter was also read from Dr. Claude Smith asking for permission to build a tool house with a heavy duty cement floor to house machinery on Lot in Highway Subdivision. This letter to be held until Dr. Smith arrives in a few days. () o u o Mayor Sedgwick stated Pine Island had already been surveyed and after some of the other important matters were taken care of and the weather cooled application would be made with the state for this land. ORDINANCES ORDINANCE #128 AUTHORIZING THE SOUTHERN BELL TELEPHONE AND TELE- GRAPH COMPANY TO USE THE [UBLIC STREETS OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA FOR THE PURPOSE OF ERECTING, CONSTRUCTING, MAINTAINING AND OPERATING LINES OF TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH THEREON AND THERE- UNO ER . Second reading of this Ordinance and motion was made by Councilman Washburn to accept this Ordinance, seconded by Councilman Friedley and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a Regular Meeting on the 13th day of August, A.D. 1956. Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a Regular Meeting of said Council held on the 13th day of August, A.D. 1956 and approved as provided by Law, the vote of said Council on roll call being as follows:- Councilman Washburn Yea Councilman Friedley Yea Councilman John Yea Councilman Farrell Yea Mayor Sedgwick Yea ORDINANCE #129 DEDICATING CERTAIN DESCRIBED LANDS OWNED BY THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, FOR PUBLIC USE. The above Ordinance was read in full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman Friedley for its adoption, seconded by Councilman John and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a Regular Meeting on the 13th day of August, A.D. 1956. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Washburn Yea Councilman Friedley Yea Councilman John Yea Councilman Farrell Yea Mayor Sedgwick Yea Upon motion duly made by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Council- man John and unanimously carried, the requirement of reading said Ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the Ordinance was ordered put upon finalpassage. Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at a Regular Meeting of said Council held on the 13th day of August, A.D. 1956 and approved as provided by Law, the vote of said Council on roll call being as follows:- Councilman Washburn Yea Councilman Friedley Yea Councilman John Yea Councilman Farrell Yea Mayor Sedgwick Yea u o o o OLD BUSINESS Attorney Brannon was ask about holding a referendum on Sunday sale of Liquor along with the Regular Election. He stated it was his opinion that it could be done and if so would save the City some money. He was authorized to contact Rodney Thursby to ascertain if there was any law against holding the referendum at this time. NEW BUSINESS Police Chief Norman stated he had two badly worn tires on the Police Car. He was instructed to obtain prices from different dealers on a set of tires. A survey of the proposed park and recreation area was presented. Mr. Dave McCallister o.k'd this survey. Motion was then made by Councilman Friedley the City instruct Stepp, Inc. to prepare the necessary papers and apply to the U.S. Army Engineers of Jacksonville, Florida for the proper permit. Seconded by Council- man Farrell and by vote unanimously CARRIED. Mr. & Mrs. Ware were present and stated they were well pleased with the work being done at the City Dump as there were no more fires and less flies. There being no further business Councilman Friedley moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED. Time 8:50 P.M.
