SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY,
FLORIDA HELD AUGUST 28th, 1956.
A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Volusia County, Florida was called to order by Mayor George O.
Sedgwick at 11:00 A.M. August 28th, 1956.

The purpose of the meeting'was to discuss the speed on Riverside
Drive and the hiring of a Part Time Police Officer.
Councilman John stated there had been an accident at Ocean Ave.
and Riverside Drive and something had to be done about the speed
on Riverside Drive and the height of bushes at street corners
as it was dangerous.
Councilman John suggested that the Speed Limit be reduced to
25 Miles per hour on Riverside Drive. Ask if he wanted to make
this into a motion he stated he did.
Councilman John then moved that the Speed Limit on Riverside Drive
be set at 25 Miles per hour between the Canal and Boston Road and
Children Crossing signs be placed at Park Avenue and Ocean Avenue
and a Police Officer be hired temporarily. Seconded by Councilman
lashburn and roll call taken, roll call being as follows:-

Mayor Sedgwick Yea
Councilman Friedley not understanding that a temporary police
officer was incorporated into this motion ask that his vote be
stricken from the roll call vote.
Mayor Sedgwick stated with the consent of the Councilman making
the motion and the Councilman seconding the motion this motion
could be split.
A motion was then made by Councilman John the City hire a Regular
Police Officer temporarily to cover vacation period of Police
Chief Norman or any emergency which might arise. Seconded by
Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being
as follows:-

Councilman Farrell stated Mr. Louis Cannavale was desirous
of doing this kind of work as he had served on the police force
in New York. He was to be contacted to confer with Mayor
Sedgwick this afternoon regarding the position, and the hiring
be left to the discretion of the Mayor.
There being no further business Councilman Farrell moved we do
now adjourn, seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED.
