The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida was called to order by Mayor George O. Sedgwick, Sept.
10th, 1956 at 7:30 P.M.

The minutes of the Regular Meeting held August 27th anda Special
Meeting held August 28th were read. Motion by Councilman Friedley
these minutes stand approved as read, seconded by Councilman John
and by vote CARRIED.
RESOLUTIONS
A RESOLUTION SUGGESTING CHANGES IN THE METHOD OF BILLING BY THE CITY
OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH FOR ELECTRIC SERVICE RENDERED TO THE RESIDENTS
OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, AND SUGGESTING STUDY OF ELECTRICAL RATES.
The above Resolution was read in full by Attorney Brannon and discussed.
Motion by Councilman Farrell this Resolution .be adopted, seconded by
Councilman John and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

A copy of this Resolution properly signed was delivered by Police
Chief F. H. Norman to the Commission Meeting in New Smyrna Beach being

Motion by Councilman Farrell these bills be paid (with the exception
of the Board of County Commissioners) and be made a part of the
minutes, seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED.

OFFICERS REPORT
The Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement and the Budget Report for
the month of August. Also Librarian's report for the month of
August. Fire Chief Garlick reported no business.
ORDINANCES
ORDINANCE #130 SETTING A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT ON RIVERSIDE DRIVE IN
THE CITY OF EDGEWATER AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF.
The above Ordinance was read in full by Attorney Brannon and after
discussion the 25 mile speed limit was extended to south City Limits.
Motion by Councilman John this ordinance be adopted seconded by
Councilman Farrell and passed by the vote of the City Council of
the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a regular meeting on the 10th day
of September, A. D. 1956.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman
Friedley and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the Ordinance was
ordered put upon final passage.
Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 10th day of
September, A. D. 1956 and approved as provided by law, the vote of
said Council on roll call being as follows:-

ORDINANCE #131 LEVYING A TAX ON PURCHASES OF FUEL OIL, KEROSENE, OR
OTHER PETROLEUM PRODUCTS, PROVIDING FOR THE COLLECTION OF SUCH TAX
AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
ORDINANCE.
The above Ordinance was read in full by Attorney Brannon motion made
by Councilman Friedley for its adoption, seconded by Councilman
Farrell and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of
Edgewater, Florida, at a regular meeting on the 10th day of September,
A. D. 1956.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman
John and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said
Ordinance upon second reading was waived, and the Ordinance was
ordered put upon final passage.

ORDINANCE #132 IMPOSING CERTAIN OCCUPATIONAL AND BUSINESS LICENSE
TAXES A~m PROVIDING FOR THE PAn~ENT AND COLLECTION THEREOF AND
PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF.
The above Ordinance supplemental to Ordinance #67 was read in full
by Attorney Brannon , motion made by Councilman Farrell for its
adoption, seconded by Councilman John and passed by the vote of the
City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a regular meeting
on the 10th day of September, A. D. 1956.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Friedley, seconded by Councilman
John and unanimously carried the requirement of reading said Ordinance
upon second reading was waived, and the Ordinance was ordered put
upon final passage.
Passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 10th day
of September, A.D. 1956 and approved as provided by Law, the vote
of said Council on roll call being as follows:-
ORDINANCE #133 PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO DETEm~INE THE
WISHES OF THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, WITH REFERENCE
TO THE SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON SUNDAY.
The above Ordinance was read in full by Attorney Brannon. A lengthy
discussion followed and Clerk and Inspectors appointed and a motion
was then made by Councilman Friedley this ordinance be adopted as
read, seconded by Councilman John and passed by the vote of the City
Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a regular meeting on
the 10th day of September, A. D. 1956.
Upon motion duly made by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman
John and unanimously aarried the requirement of reading said Ordinance
upon second reading was waived, and the Ordinance was ordered put upon
final passage.

Officers selected by the Council for Special Election were Clerk,
Dora A. ~fuite, Inspectors Henry McFarland, Marion King and William
H. Sciscoe.
RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, TO ENTER INTO
A CONTRACT WITH JOHN W. MARTIN, AS TRUSTEE OF THE PROPERTY OF THE
FLORIDA EAST COAST RAILWAY COMPANY IN REGARD TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF
CROSSINGS OF CERTAIN DESIGNATED STR~ETS IN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER OVER
SAID RAILWAY.
The above Resolution was read in full by Attorney Brannon. Motion by
Councilman John this Resolution be adopted, seconded by Councilman
Farrell and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

NEW BUSINESS
The Clerk announced Judge Tappy would have two girls at the City
Hall Friday Morning September 21st to sell urivers Licenses from
9 to 12 noon.
Mrs. Swiney ask if something could be done about the low voltage
along Park Ave. as she had a large bill for repairs on her television
caused by low voltafe. Mayor Sedgwick ask that a note be made to call
City Manager Speed and also Mr. Monroe of the Electrical Department.
There being no further business Councilman Farrell moved we do now
adjourn, seconded by Councilman Friedley and by vote CARRIED.
