The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Volusia County, Florida held November 12th, 1956 was called to order by Mayor George O. Sedgwick at 7:30 P.M. Also the report of the Librarian and the Board of Governors of the Community Center. -0 Q o J- ~ 1 I COMMUNICA~~ A letter was read from the Edgewater Civic Association pertaining to the annexation of Florida Shores. Mayor Sedgwick opened the meeting for a ten minute discussion from the floor. Remarks were made by Mr. Knapp, John Gibbs, Mr. Bittinger, Nels Frantzen, Mr. Brown, Mr. Conrad and Mr. Schofield. This letter to be answered later. Letter from the Board of County Commissioners asking that permission be procured before any water pipe, sewer pipe, light cable lines, telephone cable lines be laid along any county roads in Volusia County. Petitions were presented to the Council asking for the sale of Beer, Wine and Ale on Sundays. Mayor Sedgwick ask each Councilman to discuss this issue. Councilman Friedley stated as a referendum was held and the majority of registered voters voted against Sunday Sales he felt the Council should abide by their wishes. Councilman Washburn stated the Council should abide by the vote of the people. Councilman John stated he had nothing to say at present. Councilman Farrell stated with the ex- ception of Councilman Friedley this body had passed an Ordinance allowing Sunday Sale of Package Goods and he felt this council was to blame for the situation today and the business people who pay the largest portion of taxes were being hurt by not allowing Sunday Sale of Beer Wine & Ale. The meeting was ~ain opened for public discussion. Remarks were heard from Mr. Spring, Rev. Clifford, Walter Knapp, Mr. DePetro, Miss Allen, Mr. McFarland, Mr. Blake, Mr. Bennett, Mr. Jacobson and Mrs. Archambault. Mr. McFarland suggested that each Councilman canvas his district and find out just how the people felt. Motion by Councilman John this petition be tabled until a study be made. Seconded by Councilman Friedley. Councilman Farrell ~ade an amendment to this motion, that the petitions be returned to petitioners and be re-submitted signed by a majority of the registered voters before action is taken. Seconded by Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Washburn Yea Councilman Friedley Yea Councilman John Yea Councilman Farrell Yea Mayor Sedgwick Yea NEW BUSINESS Mr. Skipper ask that a street light be installed on Old County Road. Mayor Sedgwick said there are no lights available at present, but as soon as lights were available a survey would be made to see where lights were needed as there were a lot of applications on file for lights. Mr. Keen ask that the weeds be cleaned on a lot at the corner of Ocean Ave. and Flagler St. There being no further business Councilman Washburn moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED.
