REJULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY. OF EOOE.WATER,. VOWSIA.
COUNTY, FWRIDA HELD MAY 20th, 1957.
The Regular Heeting or the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida,
held May 20th, 1957 was called to order by Mayor George O. Sedgwick at
1:30 P .H.

The Minutes or a the Regular Heeting and a Special Meeting held ~ 13th and
~ 15th respectively were presented to each Councilman for approval. Council-
man Farrell moved these minutes stand approved, seconded by Councilman John
and by vote CARRIED.

Motion by Councilman Washburn these bills be paid and be made a part of the
minutes, seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED.
COMMUNICATIONS
A letter was read from W. J. Cozens asking that Police Chief Norman accompany
the Seaside Fiesta motorcade again this year. Motion by Councilman Washburn
that a letter be written to Mr. Cozens stating it would be impossible to
relieve our Chief this day. Seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED.
A letter was read from C. B. Beachel complaining about Russell Leslie's dogs.
This letter turned over to Attorney Brannon to handle and the Clerk to write
a letter toMr. Beache1 stating what action was taken. .
A letter was read from John H. Chisholm, representing Mr. Nat Brown, stating
he did not want to stand the. cost of the Ocean Avenue Cros~ing. Motion by
Councilman Farrell this matter be held ovt!}r until the first night meeting .
June 10th. _Seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED. Attorney Brannon
to write the F.E.C. Railroad and advise them of this action.
RESOIDTION
A RESOIDTION INCORPORATING THE CITY OF EOOEWATER IN THE VOLUSIA COUNTY CIVIL
DEFENSE PROORAM.
The above and foregoing Resolution incorporating the City into the Volusia
County Civil Defense Program was read in full by Attorney Brannon, and
motion made by Councilman Farrell this resolution be adopted, seconded by
Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

PROCLAMATION
That the Act entitled "AN ACT RELATING TO THE CITY OF EIXlEWATER, VOWSIA
COUNTY; AMENDIliZ SECTION 6 OF CHAPTER 27532, LAWS OF FWRIDA, SPECIAL ACTS
OF 1951, BY CHAmING. THE TERRITORIAL BOUNDARIES OF SAID SECTION 6; '1'0
PROVIDE A REFERENDUM; AND PROVIDIm. FOR EFFECTIVE DATE" became operative
and effective at 12:01 A.M. on May 16, 1957, which was the dq following
the official canvass of the ballots cast at the foregoing referendum
election, and the results as shown by the Election Board are accepted.
The above Proclamation was read in f'ull by Attorney Brannon, and motion
by CounciJ..ma:n Farrell the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign
this Proclamation, seconded by Councilman Washburn and by vote CARRIED.

OLD BUSINESS
Discussion on Pine Subdivision Plat'. Motion by Councilman Farrell this
plat be accepted and signed by the Mayor 'Whenever completed as agreed,
Seconded by Councilman John and bY vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as

Discussion followed on an extra Police Officer. Motion by Councilman Farrell
, seconded by Councilman Washburn,Louis Cannavee be appointed at $1.00 per
hour. It was agreed he sould work from 6 to 11 P.M. the hours being
flexible. Also Mayor Sedgwick is to have a consultation with Mr. Cannavale
and lay down rules and regulations. Attorney Brannon to draw up Ordinance.
NEW BUSINESS
Florida Shores Plats Submitted. Discussion followed and decision reached
to take this matter up again at a .meeting on Wednesday.
Discussion on opening new shell pits within the City Limits. Attorney
Brannon Was ordered to have an Ordinance drawn up forbidding new shell
pits within the City Limits.

Prices were submitted on Street Posts. Price quoted $2.00 each. It was
agreed to purchase at least fifty posts from Edgar Brothers.
Mayor Sedgwick announced there would be a dedication of the Post Office on
Saturdq and appointed Councilman John to handle all details.
There being no further business Councilman Farrell moved we do now adjourn
until 11:00 A.M. Wednesdq May 22nd. Seconded by Councilman Washburn and
by vote CARRIED.
