The Regular Heeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewaterl Floridal held July 29thl 1957 was called to order by :r-fayor George O. Sedgwick at 1:30 P.H. ROLL CALL Mayor George O. Brarmonl Jr. Present Absent Present Present Present Present Present The I-finutes of the Regular Heeting held July 15th were presented to each Councilman for approval. :r-rotion by Councilman John these minutes stand approved as submittedl seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED. COIv!MUNICATIONS A letter was read from Warren Jackson setting an estimated assed valuation for the City of Edge,~ter for the year 1957 at $2174S1019.00. A letter was also read from Mr. C. J. Fulweber asking for the berm to be lowered on the East side of Riverside Drive to relieve the water situation. Councilman Farrell stated he had contacted Mr. Lear and he gave his permission to cut a ditch to the river which should take care of this. A letter was also read from Llewellyn i'1atkins regarding the sign "Hospital" on a building across from himl asking that a for Rent or for Sale sign be placed on the property as the present sign was misleading. l-1ayor Sedgwick stated this sign had been removed. ORDINANCES ORDDJANCE #163 PROVIDING FOR THE RATE OF TAXATION FOR ALL PROPERTY IN THE CITY OF EffiEh1!TER1 VOLUSIA COm1TY1 FLORIDA1 FOR THE. YEAR A. D. 19571 AND AUTHORIZING THE NOTIFICATION OF THE l-IILLAGE TO THE TAX ASSESSOR OF VOLUSIA COmITY1 FLORIDA. The above Ordinance was read in full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman Farrell this ordinance be adoptedl seconded by Councilman John and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewaterl Florida 1 at a regular meeting held on the 29th day of July 1 A. D. 1957. The above Ordinance was read in full and motion made by Councilman Farrell this be adopted, seconded by Councilman John and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a regular meeting held on the 29th d~ of July, A. Attorney Brannon stated he had been out of his office when Attorney Chisholm tried to con- tact him. Vmyor Sedgwick instructed Attorney Brannon to draw up a Quit Claim Deed for a right of vlaY through this property. N'El:T BUSINESS A building permit applied for b;>r Fay Cory to tear off the front of the Baker Building at the corner of Pine Bluff and Ridge1'100d Ave. ,vas presented for approval. After a discussion on this, the Council decided to go in a body after the meeting to inspect this property and see if it l'larranted remodeling or be condemned. The Mayor stated this had been a low area and in the past had been flooded and srnwthathized with those who had purchased homes in this area as they were innocent victims of circumstances and he "rill endeavor to alleviate this condition as much as we are able to do with the limited finances which the City has. Motion by Councilman John to stop issuance of any building permits until a new ordinance is drawn up regulating grade of two feet above street level in areas subject to flood. Seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED. I U o ~. The above Ordinance was read 1 in full by Attorney Brannon and motion made by Councilman Farrell this ordinance be adopted, seconded by Councilman Teague and passed by the vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at a continued meeting held on the 30th day of July, A. D. 1957. After a dis- cussion the unanimous decision was to put the building in first class con- dition or demolish it. It was also discussed the allowing of light manufacturing in the Business District. It was decided to have an Ordinance drawn up for the next meeting to be voted upon.
