The rlinutes of the Regular Meeting held August 26th~ 1957 were presented
to each Councilman for approval. Motion by Councilman Teague these minutes
stand approved as sub~itted~ seconded by Councilman John and by vote CJlBRIED.

The Clerk read the Budget Report and the Clerk's Ca.sh Statement for the month
of August. Also the Librarian's Report for the month of August.

Letters \'lere read from Halter H. Smith requesting permission to take a vlritten
examination for an electrical engineer's license.
Letter from John R. Tam Law Office requesting per~ission from the City to erect
t110 s~211 directional signs within the boundaries of the City Streets in Florida
Shores.
Letter from Volusia County Health Unit regarding County insrection and approval
of building sites before a.ny Septic Tank Permits are issued. This to pe done

Letter from vlalter H. Knapp :!icing that the CitJr notify him if any changes of
zoning are ever considered for Riverside Drive and Orange Avenue, giving ~.
an opportunity to oppose any such move.
Letter from Stepp, Inc. asking if they are still retained as City Engineers
and if the City had been having another ~~gineer do their work.
A letter from Katherine S. Odham relating to House Bill No. 1773 whereby
one registeration is taken care of by the County Registration at a no~inal
fee.

In answer to the letter of Katherine S. Odham, after a discussion it was
decided to have the Clerk 1~ite a letter to ~~s. Odham and notify her the
City 1~S not interested in a single registration at this time.
Letter from the Volusia Health Dept. was discussed and after hearing from
each C01.IDcilman it Has decided to table this until next meeting. The Clerk
was instructed to put this on the agenda for next meeting.
Letter of W~ter Knapp, the Clerk was instructed to v~ite a letter to ~~.
Knapp informing him if any changes on Riverside Drive were anticipated
he would be notified.
Letter of ~Jalter Smith, ~~yor Sedgwick stated there was also a request in
from Hr. Halsh for an ex~ination, and he would instruct the building in-
spector to set up a time for examinations to be held.
Letter of Attorney Ta~. Directional signs were discussed and a copy of the
regulations of Florida Shores Here read ~r Attorney Brannon. Hr. Hoynahan
said he had no objections to directional signs, but ~~. Bergoffen had not
consulted with them in placing signs and had not abided by the regulations.
It "TaS suggested that ~..r. l:ioJrnahaTl and Hr. Bergoffen get together and settle
the sign question beb-Teen themselves. This to be put on the agenda for the
next meeting.
The Clerk was instructed to vTite a letter to ~~. Stepp and inform him the
City does not require an Ep~ineer at this time.
Street lights were discussed aTld a list of the lights already allocated were
read. Street lights to be installed as listed belm'T.
#4 District - Hardin Place. Louise Drive at Ridgewood
#3 District - Palmetto St. - Orange & Ridgewood - Ocean at FEe Ry.
Riverside Dr. &. Hotel - Old County Rd. South of Pine Bluff
#2 District - Hubbell St. at north end.
#1 District - Palmetto St. at Canal and Palmetto at Knapp Ave.
The Clerk was instructed to ivrite the City of New S~rrna Beach requesting
these lights.
l~yor Sed~.dck ask for permission to ask for bids on 16 cross overs, teEt
wells, etc before the highway gets too far along in their work.

Motion by Councilman John that ~4yor SedgWick in conjunction ~~th the Engineers
advertise for bids on an 8" and 3 - 2" test 1'1ells and the necess3...7 cross overs
on the high-i'lay. Bids on the test 1'lells 3...1'1d the 8" 1'1ell to be separate from the
cross overs. Seconded by CouncilJ!l.an Hashburn and by vote CA..l=?EIED. Roll call

Discussion on old store building being moved upon Moore lot on Park Aven~e.
}~yor Sedgi~Qck stated 1~. Cecil the mover did not get permission to put this
building there 3...1'1d he understood that he is rentL1'1g the lot at ~50.00 per
month for storage of this building. Hotion by Council1i"pn ~1Tashburn the mover

Discussion on Ordinance ff67 regarding the charges on additional gas pumps.

Attorney Brannon was instructed to draw up an amendment to Ordinance #67
and ~ake change of additional pumps ~2.50 each.
~~yor SedgYlick stated the State Road Department had dug ~1'1 unsightly ditch
along Highi'IaY 1/1 on the East Side of the road vmich 1-muld be a menace to
the City and ask that the Council consider some action. After discussion
Attorney Brannon ~~s instructed to take care of this.
Communications read from Nat Bro~~ ~1ith a proposal to build at his o"m expense
a sewage disposal system adequate at the present time to handle the present
existing homes and the homes that are proposed in the future 1-mich 1-.rill be
approxL~ately 3 to 4 hundred. Also stipulations that the City pass appropriate
Ordinance gr~1'1ting the Oi-mer and builder a franchise for a term of 30 years
the Oi'mer deriving the income from samel except the utilit:r tax due the City
of EdgeHater. Also ordinance requiring citizens in the area to hook onto said
proposed system. Also ordinance containing an appropriate recapture clause
granting the City of Edgewater the right and privelege to purchase such system
from tIle 01~er for the sum of his original initial cost, plus ten percent,
said recapture to be exercized any time during the life of said franchise.
This vlaS discussed by Hr. Brown and the Cuuncll and left up to Attorney Brannon
to study the Charter and see if the City is in position to take advantage of this
proposition. Also to study details to be worked out on the part of both parties
concerned.
Appointing of Special Police for Florida Shores to be carried over until the
next meeting.
There being no further business Councilman Farrell moved we do now adjournl
seconded by Councilman John and by vote CARRIED.
