REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EOOEl'lATER, VOLUSIA
COUNTY, FLORIDA, HELD JUNE 15th, 1959.
The Regular 1-1eeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida,
held June 15th, 1959 was called to order by Vice-Mayor Crawford C. Shaeffer
at 7:30 P.l-i.

The minutes of the Regular Meeting held June 1st were presented to each
Councilman for his approval. Motion by Councilman Farrell these minutes
stand approved as submitted, seconded by Councilman Henry and by vote CARRIED.

Hotion by Councilman Farrell these bills be paid and be made a part of the
minutes, seconded by Councilman Henry and by vote CARRIED.
OFFICERS REPORT
The Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement and the Budget Report for the Month
of May, 1959. Also the Police Report.

Advised by Attorney Chisholm the School Board closed the deal for the City Dump
and it would be necessary for the Council to rescind the Resolutinn calling for
the pledging of Cigarette Tax on a Loan to the Bank of New Snwrna. Hotion duly

made by Councilman Henry this Resolution pledging Cigaretta Tax be rescinded
as no longer needed, seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED. Roll

A Bid 1'laS receivedkfrom Roger B. Quincy on Brass for Fire Department. This bid
held until we receive more bids at vlhich time a Special Heeting will be called.
Discussion on donation for Children's Program put on by the City of New Smyrna
Beach. y~.}~ first ask for $100 then changed and ask for $200. This was discussed
by the Council and also Mr. Sganga who \'las present to discuss a School Board
Program of two days a week at the Conmnmity Center. The County furnishes the
busses and the Cities have to pay for the drivers, gas and instructors. It was
decided to "lait until Mr. Maman could be present to give the figures on expenses,
and Vice Mayor Shaeffer stated he would call a Special Meeting to take care of
it as it would only take a few minutes.
~~. Sganga ask for the use of the small room of the Community Center for a
School Board Recreational Program and he also ask for a donation of $25.00 to
be used to purchase games and equipment to belong to the City and stored here.
This program to be all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week for six vleeks.
Motion by Councilman Henry we spend $25.00 for this Recreational Program for
the Children, seconded by Councilman Farrell and by vote CARRIED.
1-'~. Hm. Fiser ask when the Curb, Cutter and Sidewalk would be finished on Park
Avenue. He stated he undeerstood it was finished, but it had not been completed
to Ridgewood Ave. on the North side. Vice-}fuyor Shaeffer stated he could not
answer this question as there was a little mis-understanding as to what was re-
quired to be put in at this point.
}~. Fiser also stated he understood the City issued Permits and Licenses to outside
Plumbers .rithout an examination. }~. LaBonde, Building Inspector who gives in-
structions on such Licenses and Permits stated he issued some Permits vdthout
a written exa~ination, if after thirty minutes of oral questions he was satisfied
they were qualified. He quoted the Ordinance which states he can give either a
written or oral examination. After discussion motion was duly made by Councilman
Henry we ~end the Plumbing, Electrical Ordinances to read each applicant must
pass a ,~itten examination before issuance of a License and also amend Contractors
Ordinance to require Contractors to pass a written examination, seconded by Council-
man Farrell and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

There being no further business Councilman Farrell moved we do now adjourn,
seconded by Councilman Henry and by vote CARRIED.
