Letter from Tropical Blossom Honey Company and Magnuson Properties, asking to
restore signs destroyed by Hurricane Donna. Mayor Shaeffer stated we had a
strict sign ordina.l1ce, but in this instance it was an "Act of God" and I do not
feel these people should be penalized, and therefore feel that we should ifave
the provisions of this ordinance in this instance. Discussion followed, then
motion duly made by Councilman Smith these businesses be allowed to replace
these signs in same condition as before, seconded by Councilman Seng and by
vote CARRIED unanimously.
Hr. Hussey then ask why anyone should be compelled to take out a permit to re-
pair a roof caused by the storm. He stated he had about $200.00 damage. Mayor
Shaeffer stated as he had said before, it was an "Act of God" and we were lucky
we did not have any more damage than \-[e did. In this instance where only minor
damage is done, I think we should overlook these small cases. I would suggest
these be given to the inspector to check. Councilman Smith moved that requests
for repairs be made through the City Hall and inspections made, seconded by
Councilman Seng and by vote CP...';ffiIED.
Mayor Shaeffer stated there was a lot of cleaning up to be done yet and no one
~dll be neglected, but I do ask you to persevere ,vith me as it will take time
and I also adk that you burn as much as possible. We will do the best we can
"\lath the help we have.

Mayor Shaeffer stated he wanted to commend the Police and Firemen for their
splendid work and co-operation during the storm. He stated they worked all
through the night in resques and also patroling the streets, when I do not
see how they could drive. The firemen served coffee and donuts to the 35
persons taking shelter in the Community Center. Once again I want to say we
can all be ve~J proud of these two organizations.
Mayor Shaeffer stated ~~. Brown was ~dlling to sell the dump ground to the
City. Hotion duly made by Councilman Seng the City purchase this ground
from Mr. Brown, seconded by Councilman Armstrong aDd by vote CAR~D unanimously.
Hayor Shaeffer stated the map \1ith house num~ers for each lot was in the City
Hall and anyone ~dshing a house number should bring his lot number to the City
Hall and obtain his house number.
Mayor Shaeffer announced the City was considering extenting the water lines
across the R.R. in Florida Shores sometime this winter when the details can
be worked out and I also hope to do some paving in Florida Shores before my
term expires.
~IT. Scofield stated where their main ditch and the mosquito control ditch
connects, the 'l'Tater overflowed causing flooding. He suggested a l2lf pipe
be put in the maquito ditch to hold back the water until the main ditch could
carry the water from Florida Shores. He said there had been no flooding
until the mosquito control ditch was put into the main ditch. Mayor Shaeffer
stated he would look it over as soon as possible.
There being no further business Councilman Seng moved we do now adjourn,
seconded by Councilman Armstrong and by vote CARRIED.
