Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday is Garbage pick-up and trash could not be picked up only on W'ednesdays. Certain things can be burned, but do not burn big lots without permission. I am asking you to help as the City does not pay its way at $1.00 per month for these pick-ups, so please co-operate and burn pine needles and leaves, etc. " , II L '. 't I "...I J ~) - Mr. Brown: \fuat constitutes rubbish? i'That about tree trunks? Mayor Shaeffer stated tree trunks would not be picked up. It is up to the individual to get rid of tree trunks and like material. Mr. Zuhr: Can you burn on own peoperty? There is no law against burn- ing on your own property, but you must attend the fire and if it should get out of hand, I would have no alternative but to call you in and impose a fine. Mrs. Carter: Must trash be burned in containers? Not as long as you stay with the fire until it is out. Councilman Armstrong stated he thought it would be a good idea, if in trimming trees the trash was too much for trash truck to pick-up the individual call a private enterprise, as the City was not in this business and there were private enterprises that made a business of it and would be glad to haul it away. Hayor Shaeffer stated he vlanted to stop any inquiries about road building, especially Flagler Avenue. This road will not be built until it stops raining as it would only be a waste of material and we want a good job or none at all, therefore it will not be touched until the weather clears. Councilman Armstrong: Meeting on school issue. More peiple should attend such meetings. I learned a lot of things. Facts really came out, such as a school site between a grave yard and railroad and dump ground. It will all come back someday, regardless of what is throvm in our face now. The best thing now is to keep silent. We are going to have a school here within the give year period. Mrs. Carter: Can't the town dump be erased from the map? Mayor Shaeffer stated it has been erased, and at this time I want to commend Mr. Brown on what he said at this meeting. Hr. Palmateer: I do not understand their language. They talk about hazards. It was advocated under Civil Defense that all the beaches be cleared in case of an attach, yet they put our children in a school on the beach side with no way to get away. vThy then do they build a school on the beach? Mr. Grafton: About the school business. I think it has been a good thing to bring this matter before the people tonight. Next time there is a meeting there will be a better representation. Also, I want to report, if the City wants a children's svling and other outside equipment, it is back of the Dorpnek house in Florida Shores and all they have to do is pick it up. Mr. Garlick: The firemen have purchased six more helmets and raincoats. Councilman Smith: I have a matter that has been kicked around for a year. The culvert under the FEC Ry. It is essential that this culvert be put in. The FEC Ry. was supposed to be taken over by DuPont on July 15th, but still we do nothing. The shell pit of the County is landlocked. I put a gauge in it and find it is getting higher all the time. I think it is time this Council makes a better effort to correct this situation. We are alright now, but we never lmow vThen we may get the heavy rains they have had around the state and we ...rould be in the same position they are in where they are nood- ed out. Councilman Haler: I do not think this culvert will be a cure-all. It would help, but would not be a cure-all. loir. Brown: The ordinary layman does not lmow more than the Engineers. Russell & Axom are the best engineering firm out of St. Louis and they should lmow what is needed. Mayor Shaeffer: I have already talked to Mr. Fredericks and he is coming to go over the situation, and make an inspection tour ...rith me. Hr. Chisholm would you please vITite a letter to ~~. Fredericks and ask for a date for him to meet with the City Council. . . v "J ~ I "wi v There being no further business Councilman Smith moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Maler and by vote CARRIED.
