REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL

The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida,
held June 6th, 1960 was called to order by Mayor Crawford C. Shaeffer at
7:30 P.N:.

The ~linutes of the Regular Meeting held May 16th, 1960 and Special Meeting
held May 20th, 1960 were presented to each Councilman for his approval.
Motion duly made by Councilman Armstrong these minutes stand approved as
submitted, seconded by Councilman Smith and by vote CARRIED.

OFFICERS REPORT
The Clerk read the Building Inspectors report for the month of May 1960.

Letters were read from the following: Herman John; Edgewater Civic
Association; Edgewater Chamber of Commerce; Edgewater Volunteer Fire
Department and Mr. Gillespie.

NEW BUSINESS
Bill for Brochure, presented by Mr. Grafton for $334.75. Mayor Shaeffer
ask Mr. Grafton to come forward and explain this bill. Mayor Shaeffer
stated when Mr. Grafton appeared before the Council and ask for assistance
on the printing bill, you quoted a figure between 500 and 600 dollars. Is
this the total bill? ~~. Grafton stated this was the total bill as they
were able to get a much better price on this printing than previously
quoted. Mayor Shaeffer: At the time you appeared before us we stated we
would donate $300.00 toward this printing and now you present a bill for
$334.75. Do you intend we should stand the whole bill? Mr. Grafton:
No, the Chamber will stand the balance of $34.75. There was quite a
heated discussion and Mr. Grafton pointed out that the City gets quite
a boost from the advertising put in this Brochure. Councilman Smith pointed
out the City of Daytona Beach did not contribute anything toward the brochure
put out by the Daytona Chamber of Commerce. Motion then duly made by
Councilman Armstrong the City give $300.00 toward the printing of this
Brochure, seconded by Councilman Seng and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote
being as follows:-

Letter from ~~. Gillespie. Mayor Shaeffer stated he and Attorney Chisholm
would take this up personally with the City of New Smyrna Beach.
Letter from Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department asking for a donation of
$300.00 tOl'lard the tire-works for 4th of July Celebration. 1-1otion duly made
by Councilman Seng the City donate $300.00 for Fire-works, seconded by Council-
man Maler andby vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follo\'ls:-

Letters from Edgewater Chamber of Commerce and Edgewater Civic Association
asking that $2,500 be budgeted next year for recreational purposes. Mayor
Shaeffer stated this would be considered when the budget was set up next
month.

Letter of Resignation from l1r. John resigning from the Community Center
Board of Governors. Motion duly made by Councilman Armstrong we accept
this resignation, seconded by Councilman Smith and by vote CARRIED.
Mr. Brown from the floor ask what the Council was doing toward the development
of the Park & Pier. Hayor Shaeffer stated the State Road Department officials
are to confer with him regarding financial help as they have already approved
this site for development.
Mr. Gunther ask what was being done about Florida Shores. He stated some
of the people living in that part that is in controversy are wondering if
they are in the City. Mayor Shaeffer assured him all of Florida Shores
was in the City and would remain in the City.
There being no further business Councilman Smith moved we do now adjourn,
seconded by Co~~cilman Armstrong and by vote CARRIED.
