OF THE CITY OF E~lATER, VOLUSIA
COUNTY, FLORIDA, HELD APRIL 18th, 1960.
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida,
was called to order by Mayor Cra\offord C. Shaeffer at 7:30 P.M. on April
18th, 1960.

The l{inutes of the Regular Meeting held April 4th, 1960 were presented to
each Councilman for his approval. Motion duly made by Councilman Smith
these minutes stand approved as submitted, seconded by Councilman Armstrong
and by vote CARRIED.

A letter was read from Magnuson Properties, Inc. asking for the abandonment
of Kumquat Drive between 16th and 17th Streets in Florida Shores.
OFFICERS REPOR'IS
The Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement and the Budget Report for the
month of Marsh. Also the Police Report for the month of Harch.

Councilman Armstrong reported Rhode Island was just
paving with the exception of lowering a water main.

Letter from Florida Shores, vacating section by Lake Laurs, being Block
32. This was discussed and motion duly made by Councilman Seng a Resolution
be prepared calling for a public hearing, seconded by Councilman Smith and
by vote CARRIED. The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. Hoynahan vlhat action
was taken and find out under whose name it is recorded.
Mayor Shaeffer stated there would be an article in the Penny Saver, under the
signature of Fire Commissioner. I wish to state that setting fire to any
acreage will not be tolerated if I find out the party setting fires like
this, I i1ill bring them before me in the Municipal Court for punishment.
Attorney Chisholm stated he had been approached by David Shannon regarding
helping to facilitate traffic violations between the two Cities. It was
suggested by him that the following two additional Police be put on as
Special or Auxiliary police without pay. Police Chief W. R. Ferreirs and
John HcArthus. These ti'TO being the only ones who have not signed the Loyalty
Oath.
Motion duly made by Councilman Smith that W. R. Ferreira, M. T. Bass, H. C.
Guest, C. H. Langford, Clayton Mason, John McArthur, D. D. McKinney, M. L.
Pandolfi, F. C. Payne, J. M. Rentfrow, R. C. Sawyer, E. H. Wessler be p,aced
on Auxiliary or Special Police Standing, seconded by Councilman Seng and by
vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as folloi'TS:-

I'-fr. Carter ask for dirt and the field be mowed for the ball diamond in
Edgewater Acres. Councilman Smith stated he would get him some red sand
as soon as he had a man free to get it, but at present they were busy getting
roads ready for paving. l.fr. Carter stated he would mo,,: himself if he could
get a mower. Councilman Smith stated Mr. Brown had a mower and it was at
the Truss plant at present.
Hr. Beach stated the park and dock at the end of Indian River Boulevard was
a bother as children jump on the railand there are also petting parties.
He stated he chased them away, but had no authority to do 50. He ask if he
could be made a special police. Chief Norman stated all he had to do was
pick up the telephone and call either him or Mr. Diebler and they would see
that it was stopped.
Mr. Bergoffen stated he would like to make a suggestion for Florida Shores.
He suggested a sign 'be placed below the Florida Shores sign advertising
Homes & Homesites, as this was very important to the builders as well as
Florida Shores. Councilman Armstrong stated it would benefit all Builders
as well as Florida Shores, but the City would have to comply to a directional
sign in size. Attorney Chisholm pointed out the City has no authority to
advertise any property, it was up to the individual. Mr. Bergoffen stated
he was willing to stand the cost of such a sign.

There being no further business Councilman Seng moved we do now adjourn,
seconded by Councilman Armstrong and by vote CARRIED.
