Motion duly made by Councilman Smith these minutes stand approved as submitted, seconded by Councilman Beck and by vote CARRIED. OFFICERS' REPORTS The Deputy Clerk read the Clerk's Cash Statement, the Budget Report, the Building Inspector's Report and the Library Report, all for the month of July. RESOLUTIONS None ORDINANCES None OLD BUSINESS None NEVI BUSINESS Referring to the letter from Donald E. Gillespie to establish legal continuity pn previous letters of protest on charges for power line ex- tensions to his home. Mayor Shaeffer stated that Mr. Gillespie will have to take this up with the City of New Smyrna Beach. Mayor Shaeffer will have Mr. Fillo construct a bicycle rack near the side door of the Library, as requested by !~'s. Angell, the librarian. As to the letter from the Florida Property ~TIers' Association with follow- ing complaints: lakes and canals overgrown with weeds and vegetation, badly in need of cleaning. Stop signs at crossroads in need of checking, some knocked dO\ill, should be replaced, also some covered ~Qth gro\vth of weeds, therefor not in view of motorists. Mayor Shaeffer had already contacted Mr. Scofield about all of these con- ditions and they are now waiting to hear from Hr. Moynahan. About the hardtop surface over the tracks at 26th and 30th Streets, Mayor Shaeffer said that this is the responsibility of the Railroad, not the City, and he will contact them. About the fire house being built in Florida Shores, which the Florida Shores Association informed the Council and Mayor that they are in favor of: Councilman Armstrong stated that the new Budget had already been made up and adopted, and plans for a new Fire House were not included. Councilman Beck said that he seemed to be the only one in favor of the new Fire House, but would recommend that no action be taken until he has looked at the plans and specifications. Chief Garlick stated that he believes that the Underv~iters will eventually require two fire stations at Florida Shores, one West of the tracks, probably sometime, one in Edgewater Acres also. " , v ~ u \wi Mayor Shaeffer said that he had talked to ten firemen and not one approved of this location. Councilman Beck said that he is going to try to get a fire house some place in Florida Shores. Mr. Maxwell, a Florida Shores resident, said there are about 178 families in Florida Shores and they need protection. Mr. Tedei said that the City Council should find the correct location. He also presented the plans and specifications. In the letter from the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department they informed the Mayor and Councilmen that they are giving their support in working with the City in planning for the # 2 Fire Station to be located in Florida Shores, hoping that there would be an amount set aside in the budget for future planning of this Fire Station. Councilman Armstrong stated that he is not opposed to a fire house in Florida Shores, but he wants it in the right place, that we should get the opinion of the Undenvriters. Councilman Beck said that he is in favor of anything good for Edgewater, not Florida Shores only. Hayor Shaeffer said he would contact Mr. Hoynahan about the location. Letter was read from Mr. John Grafton, enclosing a schedule of seven items in connection with the Water Plant to be insured for fire and extended coverage with vandalism and malicious mischief. He offered a bid of $225.38 annual premium \-lith the Preferred Mutual Insurance Company. Toxey Whitaker's price was $179.37, which payment had already been approved by the Council. V~yor Shaeffer was asked his opinion on re-location of the County Court House. He responded that he is definitely opposed to re-location; that at a luncheon in DeLand he got up and protested against it. Mr. Thomas Tedei asked when we were getting the new bridge. Councilman Beck ans\oJ'ered no plans at present. Mr. Robert Kennedy reported that Mr. & Mrs. Anderson just got their deed cleared and will clean up the weeds. Councilman Armstrong reported that he had talked to Mr. Smith at Florida Shores; he said the grader had broken down. Willow Oak & 30th Street needs to be graded and it was to be done 8th. Mr. Tedei said that 11r. Swoope had been too busy to set the drainage stakes. Mr. Warren Gunther mentioned the conditions of the crossings on Indian River Boulevard; Mayor Shaeffer informed him that these will be taken care of. Attorney Chisholm read the bids on the new Dump Truck: (1) International Harvester - Jim Donnelly (2) \vatkins Ford (3) Nieburger's Chevrolet Councilman Beck moved we do now recess until 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 8th, to study the bids for the new dump truck, seconded by Councilman Smith and by vote CARRIED.
