05-01-1961 - Regular " '--' t. ~ " ~ o REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, HELD MAY 1, 1961. At a get together in the Mayor's Office before the regular meeting motion duly made by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Armstrong that Councilman Seng act as Mayor in the absence of the Mayor this date May 1, 1961. The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida held May 1st, 1961 was called to order by Acting Mayor Stanley A. Seng, Sr. at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL ~I Mayor Crawford C. Motion duly made by Councilman Armstrong these minutes stand approved as submitted, seconded by Councilman Beck and by vote CARRIED. OFFI CERS REPORTS The Clerk read the Building Inspectors Report for April, 1961, also the Librarian's Report for the month of April. RESOLUTIONS None ORDINANCES None OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Request of Fire Chief Garlick for $35.00 to cover expenses of State fire- man's Convention. Motion duly made by Councilman Smith the Chief be granted his request for $35.00, seconded by Councilman Armstrong and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Beck Councilman Smith Councilman Armstrong Acting Mayor Seng Mayor Shaeffer Yea Yea Yea Yea Absent Letter from Mr. Pageau: Complaint on dogs barking. Chief Norman was instruct- ed to contact Mr. Cole, the owner, about this complaint. Letter from Florida Shores Property Owners Association requesting meeting with the City Council. Councilman Smith stated he was going out of town and would not be able to attend a meeting and as the Mayor was sick, this should not take place until a full Council could meet. Mr. Maxwell stated he had talked to the Mayor and he was assured the meeting would be this Thursday at 1:30 P.M. The majority of the Council would be unable to attend at this time, so the meeting was set for Thursday May 11th, at 1:30 P.M. Councilman Armstrong ask Attorney Chisholm if he had heard from Mr. Swoope about aurvey of Florida Shores Drainage. If we cannot get this work done by either Mr. Talley or Swoope, I would suggest we advertise for bids. I think the trouble with the first survey, either one or the other did not understand just what was wanted. Attorney Chisholm stated he would check again with Mr. Swoope. Mr. Palmateer: I wish to thank the Council for their effort in securing the proper drainage by putting in the Culvert under the Railroad. Mr. Maxwell: I would like to ask what has been done if anything about signals at Indian River Blvd. He was informed the City has received no word since a survey was made several weeks ago. Mrs. Hennig: There are eleven groups and several individuals who have pledged to help beautify the islands on U.S. #1. She stated Mr. Shaeffer had previously stated the City would take care of two islands. She ask if they could depend upon that. She also stated the planting would be done under the supervision of the State Road Department. The Clerk was ask to look up the records and see if the City had pledged this support. Councilman Armstrong: Somebody put hot ashes in their garbage can and they set fire to papers in the garbage truck, which had to be dumped on the road, and then shoveled into the truck again. Please refrain from putting hot ashes in your garbage cans. There being no further business Councilman Beck moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Armstrong and by vote CARRIED.
