Mayor Shaeffer ask Attorney Chisholm to report on his findings on deposits
in the First Federal Building & Loan Association. Attorney Chisholm stated
he had contacted C. vi. Smith and was informed if deposit was made a 90 day
notice would have to be given for withdrawal, but they very seldom held to
this demand. It was suggested that other Building & Loans be checked.
Motion duly made by Councilman Beck the City Clerk transfer from the checking
account $10,000 to a Savings account in the Bank of New Smyrna, seconded by
,Councilman Smith and by vote CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

It was then suggested by Councilman Smith that other Building & Loans be
checked and if found feasable all surplus be put in a savings account. Mayor
Shaeffer stated if we found we could to this he would call a Special meeting
to pass a Resolution for such a deposit.
Mr. Musson appeared before the Council for their support on a road to his
property which would connect with his property in New Smyrna Beach which is
up for approval of the School Board for a High School. After a survey team
inspected this site, it was found to be more suitable than Venezia because
of pupil placement, but access roads would have to be obtained. All he ask
of this Council was to go on record of approval of a road from the east thru
Edgewater, if the Board approves this land.
Mayor Shaeffer stated, I believe if I was to go along with a road to this
piece of land, I would be run out of town.
Councilman Beck: I am in favor of a road. We need a school and I will not
stand in the way no matter where it is located.
Councilman Seng: If I am correct, this property is almost opposite Knapp Ave.
If approval of a road would make a school available and we do not have to
make a street immediately, I am in favor of a street.
Councilman Smith: I would like to see a school built and think the City
should go along to the extent of their ability.

Councilman Armstrong: I have not changed my mind. I am opposed to buying
two sites for a school. They have already purchased a site from the City
and it would mean higher taxes and I am looking out for the tax payer. I
also think the County should assist in the road building.
Mayor Shaeffer then stated if the state School Board accepts this site, I
would have to go along as I am out voted. I always say if you can't lick
'em, join 'em.
A spectator ask what was being done about the accidents at the entrance to
Florida Shores. Mayor Shaeffer stated he had a very learned man to draft
up a report or Resolution to be sent to Tallahassee and he would have some-
thing to report in a few days.
Mr. Carter: Ask about a place to put the suffleboard equipment. The City
Hall being closed on Saturday and Sunday the players cannot get the equip-
ment. He stated he was willing to take charge of the equipment if it was
put someplace where he could get it. The Mayor stated he had talked to some
of the players and it was suggested that the equipment be put in the Men's
wash room at the center and both the Men's and Women's wash rooms be left
open during the day and someone put in charge of the equipment, so Mr. Carter
if you would be willing to resume the responsibility I will delegate you to
look after it and see to lockers. A custodian will probably be appointed
later when the players organize. Mr. Carter stated he would be glad to
J.o this. Mayor Shaeffer then stated the courts should not be used until
1:00 P.M. on Sunday or after Church services.
There being no further business Councilman Beck moved we do now adjourn,
seconded by Councilman Seng and by vote CARRIED.
Time 8:15 P.M.
