CRDINANCES
Council decided to leave tabled the ordinance prohibiting the speed of
trains ldthin the corporate limits of the City of Edgewater greater than
25 miles per hour, as negotiations with the Florida East Coast Railway have
not been completed.
OLD BUSINESS
Attorney Chisholm reported that he had talked ldth a Florida East Coast
Rail~y official and he had suggested that the City contact Herb Tuell of
the Armco Pipe Company of Jacksonville about the work on the culvert, as
the Railroad does not do the work, only supervises it. The Attorney was
instructed to phone Armco Pipe Company to get a price.
Councilman Smith again brought up the subject of investing surplus money.
Motion was duly made by Councilman Seng that Mayor Shaeffer investigate an
instant withdrawal investment, seconded by Councilman Beck and by vote
CARRIED. Roll call vote being as follows:-

NEW BUSINESS
Mayor Shaeffer stated that some money would be spent on paving streets,
mentioned Palmway, Hardin Place and Virginia A venue that could be done by
the City, and Indian River Boulevard by the County. Councilman Seng
suggested that Marion Avenue be considered. Councilman Smith protested
that older City streets should be taken care of in preference to Indian
River Boulevard, stating that the Mayor had no right selecting Indian
River Boulevard. Councilman Beck admitted that he did not know much about
Indian River Boulevard; it was explained to him that it is the main artery
leading into Florida Shores from the Highway, a feeder artery leading to
all the other streets within the development. Councilman Beck stated that
streets that have the most use should be taken care of first. John Grafton
spoke up for Indian River Boulevard, mentioning that there is more building
going on in Florida Shores than the rest of Edgewater., as well as New S~
Beach. Councilman Amstrong spoke of the high percentage of building, electric
and plumbing permits taken out for houses built in Florida Shores.
After much discussion, it was decided to drop the subject of street selection
until the City is ready to go ahead on the Street work.
Mayor Shaeffer asked if anyone had anything to say. Councilman Smith
criticised the Mayor for having given Chief Norman permission to work at the
dog track last season without asking the Council t s approval, mentioning that
Police Chief Norman had been absent two Council meetings. Councilman Smith
also brought up the subject of City checks being signed by the Mayor before
bills are approved by the Council.
Councilman Beck protested about the noise in the Community Center while
Council is having a meeting. Mayor Shaeffer said he would take care of this
matter.
Mrs. Murton reported that the Highway approach to Snyder Street needed to be
filled in. Mayor Shaeffer told Mr. Shippee to see that this is taken care of.
There being no further business Councilman Beck moved we do now adjourn,
seconded by Councilman Armstrong and by vote CARRIED.
