The Continued Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, held December 22nd, 1960 was called to order by Mayor Crawford C. Shaeffer at 2:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Mayor Crawford C. Fred Garlick Present Present Present Present Present Absent Present Absent Absent Absent M~or Shaeffer called for report on Chevrolet's low bid on Police car, from Councilman Beck and Councilman Armstrong, whom he had appointed at Regular Council Meeting, December 19th. They reported that they had been unable to contact Ken Schonnesen before the meeting. Councilman Beck said that the radio and the dome light could be transferred from the old car to a new one, but everything else should be brand new. Councilman Beck made a motion that the old bids be thrown out and new specifications made, making sure to include a spotlight, a calibrated speedometer and a heavy duty generator or alternator. Councilman Smith seconded the motion and by vote it was Carried. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Beck Councilman Seng Councilman Smith Councilman Armstrong Mayor Shaeffer Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea Mr. Ralph Beach inquired about an ordinance against more Trailer Parks in Edgewater. Mayor Shaeffer informed him that he had conferred with the City Attorney about such an ordinance and Attorney Chisholm had stated that such an ordinance would not hold in Court. Councilman Armstrong read from a letter to New Smyrna Beach officials, written in September, that Edgewater wished to terminate the Electric franchise. As Mayor Bonnet was aw~, this letter had been tabled. Councilman Armstrong complained that the voltage in Edgewater is too low, and the rates charged are ten to thirty percent higher than rates to customers of Florida Power & Light Company. Florida Power & Light pays 6% interest on deposits, while New Smyrna Beach pays none, also New S~a Beach charges $45.00 for customer connections and charges for extensions of electrical lines. M~or Shaeffer said he will seek a meeting with New Smyrna Beach City officials shortly after the first of the year to discuss Edgewater's electrical contract with the City of New Smyrna Beach. .
