Mr. Landrove from the Volusia Health Department spoke concerning
the rat problem in Edgewater.
Mr. Landrove: First I would like to express my thanks to the
Mayor and to the City. Council, although what I have to say
may be a little contrary to what you want to hear. The
Volusia County Health Department does not have an active
Rodent Control System.. They do not have the facilities for
this problem. Due to the undeveloped areas, the rat breeding
is of great importance to the Department, bnt it has never
come to be a great problem. I.would sugges~ to you people
first, if you see any rats try to ignore it. I wouid take a
good look into my house to see if there are any openings.
Then if.there are, rat proof your house. Evening and morning
hours seem to be the most active time. I would keep garage
door down. 11" you get any in the hous,e get a private
exterminator or get a patent that will rid the house of the rats.
Mayor Hussey: There is nothing that can be done. I asked
Mr. Landrove if he would come down and taLk to you and he
was very glad to do so.
The Minutes of the Regular Meeting held July 2nd, 1962 and
the Continued Meeting held July 5th, 1962 were presented to
each Councilman for his approval. Motion duly made by Counnilman
Palmateer these minutes stand approved as submitted, seconded

Councilman Palmateer: I would like to say at this time that
we have an 9rdinance with which we can handle the cleaning of
the lots. We get a lot of telephone calls asking to have
this done. We would like to have letters from the people wanting
the lots cleaned stating most of the facts, what property, location,
etc. and the owner of the property if possible and have the
signature of the person making the request. This City Council
will do what it can through the Ordinance.
NEW BUSINESS
Councilman Siller: We have in .front of us the new microphones
donated by the Board.of Governors. I think it is a wonderful
thing they have done. I think ~bo Board of Governors is
entitled to a great deal of thanks..
Motion duly made by Councilman Palmateer that the City Clerk
write a letter of thanks to the. Board of Governors.
Mayor Hussey: Thanks to the Board of Governors for the
wonderful co~venience they have given us.
A woman from the audience asked what is being done about
cleaning the lakes in Florida Shores and whatiis being done
about the alligators in the lakes.
Councilman Kennedy questioned as to what could be done about
the lakes with the exception of maybe dYnamiting them.
Councilman Kennedy: He stated that the County" would start
putting in the cross-overs in Florida Shores tomorrow. He
stated that the extension of Indian .River Boulevard to the
River would be paved. Concerning the matter of extending
water lines, Councilman Kennedy stated that the ~ity furnishes
the first 100 feet of pipe, the person who hooks up pays the
balance. mhe money is paid back to you as different people
~ook up on the line. If the water line goes by your house
you must hook up to it. You can find out.more about it by
checking the ordinance. He also asked if there had been any
bids for the playground equipment? Mayor Hussey said there
hadn't been. .
Mayor Hussey: This afternoon Mr. Palmateer and myself dropped
down to see Mr. Saxon. We heard him call from his car and
say that tomorrow they would start putting in the cross-overs.
I have wanted this done since I came into office.
. .
Councilman Palmateer: He stated that the lady comp1aining
about the lakes. and anyone else that has this complaint
should write a letter to the City since this done come under
she new ordinance since it is an unsanitary condition. We
will see what can be done.
