The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, held May 21, 1962 was called to order by Mayor A. Hussey at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL lfJayor A. Hussey Councilman C.A. Garlick Present Present Present Present Present Present Absent Present Present The Minutes of the Regular Meeting held May 7th were presented to each Councilman for his approval. Motion duly made by Councilman Seng these minutes stand approved as submitted, seconded by Councilman Palmateer and by vote CARRIED. Councilman Seng noticed that a motion to pay bills & accounts was not in the minutes of the previoue ~eti~ The City Clerk said that there had been a motion and would see that it was inserted into the minutes. A letter was read from Fire Chief Garlick requesting 1 1/2" Select 0 Stream Mystey Nozzel also 1 Hardie Blaze Buster 3/4" for booster line. II v '-' ""'" ~ A letter was read from General Extension Division of Florida University of Florida. It told about the classes for the Head of the Water Department. A letter was read from ~harles H. Sieg, Jr., Tank and Tower Contractor concerning safety devices to be installed on all permanent ladders over twenty feet high. A letter was read from Ralph and Mary Owens, who desire to be granted a license to operate a Fish Camp on their property. A letter was read from John H. Moynahan concerning the dedication of Easement across Buffer Strip in Florida Shores. A Quit-Glaim deed was attached. . A letter was read from the President of Edgewater Civic Association, V.lI'. Donald T. Mason; President of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, Warren L. Gunther; and President of the Florida Shores Property Owners Association, Joseph C. Blauvelt concerning a school in Edgewater. A letter was read from John H. Moynahan concerning the Buffer Strip from the railroad around the north end of Needle Palm Drive. OFFICERS REPORTS The Clerk read: Clerk Cash Statement and Budget Report for the month of April and the Police Report for the month of April. RESOLUTIONS None ORDINANCES ORDINANCE NO. 311 DESIGNATING AND APPOINTING A STREET FOREMAN FOR THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND SETTING FORTH COMPENSATION FOR SUCH OFFICER. The above ordinance was read in full by the City Clerk and motion duly made by Councilman Kennedy this ordinance be adopted seconded by Councilman Siller and passed by vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida at the regular meeting of the said Council held on May 21, 1962. Roll call vote being as follows: Councilman Siller Councilman Seng Councilman Palmateer Councilman Kennedy Mayor Hussey Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea Upon motion duly made by Councilman Seng seconded by Councilman Palmateer and CARRIED, the requirement of reading said ordinance upon second reading was waived and the ordinance was ordered put upon final passage. Passed by vote of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, at the regular meeting of said Council on the 21st day of May A.D., 1962, and approved as provided by law, the vote of said council being as follows: Councilman Siller Councilman Seng Councilman Palmateer Councilman Kennedy Mayor Hussey Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea " v <..J v u OLD BUSINESS The minutes of the Zoning & Planning Board of the City of Edgewater, Volusia County, Florida, held on May 8, 1962 were read for variance on Nat Brown1s Property. Motion duly made by Councilman Palmateer that we accept this report as read, seconded by Councilman Kennedy and by vote CARRIED. ~oll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Siller Councilman Seng Councilman Palmateer Councilman Kennedy Mayor Hussey Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea NEW BUSINESS Motion duly made by Councilman Seng, seconded by Councilman Palmateer that we accept with regrets the resignation of Dan Warren as of May 21, 1962 as City Attorney of the City of Edgewater, and by vote CARRIED. Motion duly made by Councilman Seng that we write a letter to Dan Warren in appreciation of his services, seconded by Councilman Kennedy, and by vote CARRIED. Hotion duly made by Councilman Kennedy that we accept deed from Magnuson Properties, seconded by Councilman Palmateer and by vote CARRIED. Nat Brown said he would give the deed tor his Buffer Strip on Flagler Avenue to the City. Concerning a letter abuut a school for Edgewater, Mayor Hussey had this to say: Mr. Blauvelt and myself went to DeLand to talk with Mr. Smiley pertaining to the school situation. He contacted the engineers in Tallahassee and they were to make a report the 29th of this month in New Smyrna Beach or Daytona Beach, lam not sure which. However, if we don1t attend thismeeting we will still hear from Hr. Smiley. He assured us he would send us a letter to see what the engineers decided upon. I hope at the next meeting I will be able to give you more of the details. Concerning a letter from Ralph & Mary Owens requesting a license for a Fish Camp. l-fotion duly made by Councilman Kennedy that we turn this over to the Zoning & Planning Board, seconded by Councilman Siller and by vote CARRIED. Motion duly made by Councilman Palmateer that the City Clerk write to various companies concerning the Water Tower Safety Device. Motion duly made by Councilman Seng that we allow Mr. Paul Ream $100.00 for his expenses and registration for attending classes at the University of Florida, seconded by Councilman Siller, and by vote CARRIED. Councilman Siller brought up the fact that Mr. Ream is going on his own vacation time and that he is not taking time off from his work. Roll call vote being as follows:- Councilman Siller Councilman Seng Councilman Palmateer Councilman Kennedy Mayor Hussey Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea Motion duly made by Councilman Seng that we purchase for the Fire Department the materials that were requested by Fire Chief Garlick, seconded by Councilman Kennedy and by vote CARRIED. II u u ~ u Councilman Siller: Mr. Horace King found he could no longer on the Board of Governors so I have nominated Nels Frantzen. understand a resolution has to be dra~n1 up for this. remain I Hrs. Re::illey asked when the trial for Frank Norman would be, and if he was exonerated would the City have to pay hilIl all his back pay? It seems the taxpayers should know about this. Mayor Hussey said that he supposed the trial would be this Wednesday but he wasn I t sure. Councilman Seng said he would stand on what he said before and that if Frank Norman wase exonerated he would get his back pay. Councilman Seng said tthat this Council had not charged Frank Norman with anything. There being no further business Councilman Palmateer moved we do now adjourn, seconded by Councilman Seng and by vote CARRIED. Time 8:15 P.M.
