04-06-1962 - Special II I I '-' ~ v .J SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEV1ATER, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA, HELD APRIL 6th, 1962. A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida held April 7th, 1962 was called to order by Mayor A. Hussey at 7:05 P.M. ROLL CALL Mayor A. Hussey Present Councilman C. A. Siller Present Councilman S. A. Seng, Sr. Present Councilman H. R. Palmateer Present Councilman G. S. Kennedy Present City Clerk Frank F. Dippery Present Acting Police Chief J.Deibler ~resent Mayor Hussey called this meeting for the purpose of discussing emploYing another Police Officer. Councilman Siller stated that he understood this meeting was called to just discuss emploYing another Police Officer and make no decision. Councilman Kennedy stated the applications had not been screened as yet and therefore I move this meeting be adjourned until the next Regular Council meeting. Councilman Kennedy also ask if it had been advertised the City was looking for a Police Officer. Mayor Hussey stated not that he knew of. Councilman Siller ask if Acting Chief Deibler had given any of these applicants an examination similar to Civil Service in Daytona Beach. Mr. Deibler stated he had not. Councilman Seller then stated this was agreed upon as we almost got in one mess by hireing a man who was not qualified, so lets not make another mistake. I feel we should look into the background of any applicant extensively. Councilman Palmateer stated he thought this meeting was called for 7:00 P.M. to go over these applications and the Special meeting would follow at 7:30 P.M. for the Public the same as our regular meeting nights. I believe we should go over these applications in private and not discuss them publicly, therefore, I second the motion now on the floor.
