NEW BUSINESS
William Nix - application for a 5' variance to construct a garage at 920
South Riverside Drive.
Mr. Nix was present to explain his plans. A variance of approximately
5' to the north sethack line to permit construction of a garage at 920
South Riverside Drive is being requested. Verification of advertising
and posting of the property was established. There was no oPposition
from neighbors to the proposal. There is an existing garage connected
to the residence but the location of the garage makes is very difficult
to get a car in and out.
Mr. Roush and Mr. Wetzel said they had no objection to granting the variance.
Mrs. Murphy had no objections, but was concerned that they may be starting
something they could not stop. It was pointed out that each case is con-
sidered on its OWn merits, and there are no objections from neighbors in
this case. Mr. Garthwaite had no objections. Mr. Newell asked how the roof
would be constructed and Mr. Nix explained that the existing roof will stay
as it is except that the roof on the north side of the existing garage will
be done away with and there will be one sloping roof on the north. He said
that it is a hardship for him to use the garage as it is now located.

MISCELLANEOUS
The letter from the City Clerk concerning the newspaper ads going to the
News Journal, instead of to the News Observer, was discussed. Because
all of the Board members subscribed to the morning paper they suggested
that the ads go in the morning edition. Mrs. Taylor said that she would
specify that the ads go to the morning paper.
The Board discussed their request to have the Building Official indicate
on the building permit that ordinance number which is relevant to the permit.
Mrs. Taylor reported the comments made to her by the then building official
that there would be many sections of the code that would need to be listed,
if this became a requirement, and he felt this was an unreasonable request.
Mrs. Kinsey has not responded to the memo. The members agreed to a "wait
and see" approach.
